If you take the name Alsation away from the breed then you leave that name "alsation" for some mad breeder to take the chance to seperate the breed and call their dogs "Alsations" I can imagine it now "Direct decent from the german shepherd but due to different ideas for the breed we decided to rename our line(s) and seperate from the german shepherd - Alsation - country of origin, uk" A whole new mad breed but 100% german shepherd.
Do you really want to risk the breed seperating?

the way things are going lately with KC shows there will be a minimum of CCs allocated to the GSD, and if we're not careful we'll be handing these over to 'alsatians' anyway.

I agree with you there, I don't think the KC will allow it to happen either.
I didn't know there was 'trouble at mill' on the 'alsatian' side - there will be no CCs allocated at all at this rate. You could be right about the weather too, it has been awfully hot, and I wouldn't want to put my dog through it, and don't talk to me about coat condiition!!! - LOL.

Yes a very large proportion of the so called "Alsatianist's" are not supporting any show where the judge has anything to do with certain individuals of the UK club, namely the Chairman, Vice Chairman, Acting secreatry and committee members, it has been the case recently at another Ch show in scotland where by it was already stated long before the show who would go BOB and go BOB he did, and because the judge on the day is a very good friend (so he thinks) of the BOB owner, it was a very poor entry for the same reason that have been mentioned.
People on the Alsatian side of the fence are sick and tired of the dicatorial stance of the UK club (in the present chairmans hands) and its so called committee( that by the way are not allowed to go against the chairman).
It will be very very very interesting to see the entries for South Yorkshire Alsatian Open show in August, as again people are not going to support this club for the same reasons, Richmond Ch show in sept and the UK club show in Nov.,
So yes there are "problems" on the Alsatian side, BIG PROBLEMS, and while a certain individual remains where he is then they will not support the club even if it means the club folding, CC's on offer or not.
The people i am talking about also have around 40 dogs between them that are shown. A lot of entries to lose, but lose them they will.

I was talking to my mate as i was going through these posts and she is right. "Alsation" or "German shepherd" is like "Catholic" or "Protestant" era of the 1500's. It is still one, it comes from the same blood, the same history and the same love for a great dog. Yes there are major differences but there are also so much that could benifit each other.
They are ONE - no matter how much you try to devide them and no matter how much you argue and fight. They will always be one!

I do not wish to get involved in the debate, but the KC have written to the Alsatian training club of Bristol (ATCOB)a club that has been running for 47 years and asked if we would change our name to GSD. Two problems with the name change, firstly there is already a GSD of Bristol club and secondly all our team kit is embroidered with ATCOB so there is a not insignificant cost involved.
Suggestions on a postcard please.
If they are purely asking (as opposed to telling), then the easisest option is to take the said letter and bin it.............
Personally I do not see what all the fuss is about - as far as I am aware the name was started to be used, instead of German Shepherd, during the war and to move away from any connotation of the word German. Seems a whole load of fuss about triviality to me.
