Thanks Sunsilver : - ) Actually though, its United Kennel Club that Chaos use to show in and compete in. We call it the farm but there are no other animals on it, just a house right now and 2 barns. Soon to be our house too. Chaos is living the life of a dog and loving every minute of it. I have never seen him as happy as he has been over the past almost a year. I was scared to death to not be supervising him full time, but I am glad that I decided to do what we did. He hates apartment life. He's got all the room in the world now to be a happy dog. And yes, he does have food and water full time. If we can't get over there for a day, we make sure that either Bobbys' brother or dad check on him to make sure all is ok. They can see him from the house any time they look out, so that's also good.

There is a reason our breed does not do well when sold to pet owners that either chain them up outside or throw them out in the backyard privacy fence. It is not the confinment it is the lack of their human partners that makes them nuts and also creates behavior malformities over time.

GSDNewbie and the rest that didnt read my entire post to the ene apparently, lol. Chaos is not out there alone. Bobbys' dad and brother see him every minute of the day when he is not sleeping in the barn. They see him come and go out of his doggy door. They see him play in the yard, dig his holes or what ever it is he decides to do. We are only 15 minutes away from him ourselves. We see him every single day before or after work, since we work different times. We WILL be building our house right there on the property so he will be with us full time. He is not a lonely GSD, lol. Our friends stop and play with him even if we aren't there and they stop by. Chill out people, he is absolutly fine!!! I love my dog more than anything and that is why he is there. He was miserable in the apartment. This is where he wants to be and you can see it on his face when you see him. I have never seen him this happy before in his 5 years. And the coyotes was actually a joke! He's doing wonderfully with his underground fence. He has never crossed the line for anything. Herds of deer come within 100 yards of him and all he does is sit there and watch them. Not one attempt to chase in since he's been out there (Aug) of 2010. Turkeys come within 50 yards and nothing there either. He is so laid back and relaxed out there. I am glad that my dog is happy and could give a crap less what the negative ones think, lol. Thanks for the positive post though peeps.

He was fine enough in the apartment while he was showing for you and studding, why is he unhappy in an apartment now after he is retired at only age 5? Did you add dogs to the home and he is unhappy about it?
In cold weather you will need to make him a separate dog house that is smaller and can help him hold his body heat to himself.
You cannot tell me people that can look out at him will continiue to check on your dog for you every time he barks after the barking all night sleeping all day comments.
It is getting to be coyotes all over the place and you fool yourself at your dogs expense if you think they will not come for him. A group of coyotes still in city limits tried to get my doctors gsd just a couple weeks ago and luckily he was able to get outside the door right off his bedroom where the dog had only gone to relieve itself to save his dog.
If you spend every day at the farm you be the master and make your dog spend nights at home in the aprtment and run all day at the farm being safe. Kids would love to never go to bed and would love to not have restrictions on them but we do so to keep them healthy and safe.

It does not completely take away the desire....just the ability to inseminate.
There may still be the attraction to females in heat.
We have coyotes everwhere now.
