I would be curious to know if anyone has had dealings with the following breeders and what was your experience good or bad:

 http://www.towbar-kennels.com/

http://www.cascademalamutes.com/

http://ellaskennel.com/index.html

Thank you.

I would recommend avoiding all the "giant" Alaskan Malamute breeders.  Focus on breeders that stay close to the standard and actively work and show their dogs.

Thanks for the reply...I hope this forum picks up and becomes as active as the German Shepherd forum. Some f the breeders that I posted say they are breeding the "M'Loot" strain of the malamute. Is there actually such a strain that tends to be larger than the standard? Or is this a hoax similar to German Shepherd breeders that claim to breed old fashioned GSD's that are over sized? You suggested that I look at show kennels - are there some good working kennels that you could recommend? ...I know its a host town here, so I hope you pass back through and leave another post.

OldWorld, the M'loot strain was one of 3 major lines of the early Alaskan Malamutes. There are no pure M'Loots living today. Giant breeders use every excuse in the book to justify breeding oversized dogs.  The AKC standard of the breed says the ideal size is 25", 85 lbs for a male, 23", 75 lbs for a female. That is what breeders should be breeding for, not their own personal preferences.

The links you have posted above are all giant breeders.

Wikipedia classifies these dogs as "Super Malamutes"; the dogs that I have seen seem to be well bred, smart, and obedient (as well as one can expect for a Malamute). As far as being a musher, I would say NO, unless you want a dog for a short pulling contest. As far as the best puller that I have ever seen, the dog was a Malamute/Rotty mix, and could tow a Chevy Suburban to a junkyard....uphill...
