As I am interested in getting a mal puppy I am now in the prosses of breeder hunting. So if you know any breeders of AKC Belgian Malinois

I can spend up to $1,000 and I don't plan on getting the puppy anytime soon, maybe next year. But I would really like any assistance you could offer in helping me finding a good breeder in south Texas

it ISNT an easy task, I've been looking for about a year now.

What do you need a malinois puppy for?
Where have you looked? If you are only looking in one area, it will be hard.
1K will most likely not be enough for a quality dog.

Personal Protection training, agility and basic obedience.

I hear they are high drive dogs and I would adore working with that intensity and I would like to try toy rewards as I've never been able to. Besides that my Doberman Pinchser died of Wobblers a few months ago and all I have is my German shepherd. I understand grief can effect your training, so I don't want the pup untill I'm sure I can give it all it needs. But I've done quite a bit of research and have decided it would fit my lifestyle.

In that case and judging from your lack of experience with the breed, i will suggest you look fot a show breeder to buy your dog from as they breed dogs more suitable to your needs.
A working malinois is not a short coated GSD nor is it as forgiving.
Please be careful in getting one, for most people, its more then what they can handle.

Please take Hired Dog's words to heart.  Mals are VERY different than gsds, even a police K9 gsd.   The nerve/temperament is very different, they mature much earlier,  and they are NOT forgiving.  By forgiving we mean that you cannot go back and clean up a mess.   German Shepherds are forgiving--you can mess up, go back and re-train.  You can "fix" problems (but even with gsds, not everything)  You cannot make mistakes with Mals:  they learn fast and forever.  There is no going back and fixing a traning error.  If you screw up, it stays screwed up.

Ever notice how many people are NOT competing with "bought" Mals, i.e., already trained and titled, versus those competing with German Shepherds bought off some trial field?   There is a reason for that.   Go to some clubs  with multiple breeds and see some Mals in action. Talk to the handlers, particularly those who may have had gsds prior to mals and get their take on what you must be prepared to address.

Best wishes.

$1000 to $1200 is normal puppy price (also stud fee) for a nice registered mal pup. Malinois are more like a cross between a Border Collie and an Australian Cattledog that has been bred for man work. They learn very quickly and do not forget, thus you better have the correct training plan and environment for them. This is not a learn as you go breed unless you have done your homework and have a support system for guidance - good friend, trainer, club, breeder with successful experience. I find people who are enthusiastic, willing to learn and open to multiple training methods depending upon their dog, their own personality, and their particular situation do well with this breed.

I recommend Michael Ellis Training with Food and Playing Tug with Your Dog DVDs as a good foundation in your training toolbox.

I live in the Houston area and am planning 3 litters next year, one with Outbacks Jack. Other studs on my list that I want to use if not now, but eventually, are Dantero's Mac, Luigi du Dantero, and Graubaer's Bruiser(Bomber). I like these males and hopefully what their lines will do when mixed with mine. I should have lots of pups for all applications and handler personalities. I will also be looking for good co-ownership homes for my females.
