Very nice dog. I'd love to send one or two of my dogs to a trainer. The dogs certainly are capable, It's myself that is in question.

Why is someone else training your dog? I thought SchH was all about a dog and its owner learning together and competing as a team? Am I wrong again?

Handsome dog.
I thought about sending my male off to be trained. (I have absolutely nothing against people who do, for the record) As long as it's a trainer who is well respected, certified and has references.
Also Sita's Mom, people have many reasons for not wanting to train their dog themselves and it's not always laziness. Some people are not physically or mentally capable of schutzhund training. Others don't have the time. I was up in the air about it because I was also afraid of screwing Galan up. Everyone makes mistakes as first time handlers.
In the end I ended up starting him myself and have no regrets. It's cheaper and I have learned more about myself and my dog that I ever thought possible. Oh, and I have made tons of mistakes. I'm having to break old habits, begin new ones and (gasp) get into shape lol.
I'm also realizing that I won't hurt my dogs feelings with a strong (fair) correction. Believe it or not, that has been one of the most difficult things for me to do. I have babied him for the the last 2 1/2 years. And he had me wrapped around his little paw..
My first night of training, I stated to my club members that I had given my dog basic training at home and he is obedient, with great drive. I told them I had control and respect from him, that I was the "boss" in our home.. Well, They about fell off their chairs with laughter as my dog jumped on me, balked (or ignored me) at my every command. The only thing I was right about was his drive, and it's only toy drive, no food drive at all. We're working on that.
Anyway, I'm just trying to make a point and (ramble a lot, I know) With a difficult dog RE-training can be a b*itch. Especially when the dog is mentally in his teens, un neutered and high drive. Not everyone can do it. Don't know if Windy'd dog and situation was like mine, but not everyone can handle a dog like that.
Just my 2 cents,
Stacy

Didn't you post a public notice about this very trainer on the GSD message board?
Had a change of heart?

Cut his food back a little he will be looking for food then, a dog who is not hungry is an over fed dog remember the treats used in training are not extra or free it comes out of his daily ration

In addition, wlpool has taken out an ad here on the pdb that is a repeat of her derogatory post. Her ad popped up yesterday when I logged on. Big photo of a GSD in the back of her "very large SUV" as she likes to tell us, with two little girls snuggling up to him. Guess it's never too early to teach your daughters to be witches.

Also, have Joined a club that meets 1-2 times a week and I work with him everyday. Yes it does take time away from my family and that is why I wanted to have it done by a pro, but alas, Hanz does work better for me. It is my affection that pulls the best out of him.
About Rentz.
He said my dog needed to be pushed HA! I think not! No, he doesn't work for food, but he will work his heart out for a big hug and kiss from me at the end of the track or activity. He listens for my commands and loves his reward at the end. I am 100% happy that he would rather have a hug than a wiener.
Bitework: I have had this checked (Used same guy that checked before Rentz) and his bite work had completely changed when I got him back. He had no confidence and only now is starting to grab full again and with solid confidence. But, not as good as it was before he left. I think it will be another MONTH before he has it back to normal. It is getting better as he understands how much it pleases me to bite harder and fuller.
Dumbbell: just tested him. You would think that after 4 months he would know what a DUMBBELL WAS. WHAT A WASTE OF MONEY.!!!!!!!
I will fix his bite and finish him out, but Rentz working dogs was a complete waste of money!
My two cents. If there is someone who disagrees, good for you. You can like him and you can dump your money into his training. I won't and I am displeased.
