Phil Behun

I don't know about other peoples problems but I do know mine has never jammed and there's a reason why the Marine Corps switched to Kimber .45's from Baretta 9mm's.  I have fired Baretta 9's, Glock 9's .40's & .45's, H&K USP's, Sig 380's, 9's, .40's & .45's and Colt .45's and I will take the Kimber for 1 shot right between the eyes every time.  Don't need a magazine full of BB's when I can hit you with 1 sledgehammer.

Phill.....Youve not fired yours enough. 1911s Jam.  Especially on HP ammo and in matches...its finely tuned and tight toleranced. Theres a price for their accuracy, reliability
Now I do like the 45 but in Glock 21 and Sig 220. I also like 10mm better.

Beretta M9-9mm  is the Standard US Military And Marine Sidearm.
It is 9mm, FMJ. Some small Special Marine Units opt for 1911s, as theyre restricted to FMJ ammo by Geneva Convention. I read its only 87 Marines that use 1911s in Iraq today. The Marines USMC Use Berettas.
'May 2005, the U.S. Marine Corps (USMC) awarded a sole-source contract to Beretta for 3,480 "M9A1" pistols (M9 with an accessory rail'
'45 ACP cartridge, has been the standard-issue side arm for the Force Recon Element of the US Marine Corps' Marine Expeditionary Units from 1985 to today. Its National Stock Number is 1005-01-370-7353.
On 17 February 2005, Marine Corps Systems Command announced that it was going to purchase 150 Springfield Armory Professional Model pistols for use as MEU(SOC) pistols.'
(150 pistols for RECON-Phil)

If you think its 9mm is a 'BB', youre welcome to stand in front of mine..2 in the head, 1 in the chest.
You wont know the difference.
'It aint what you hit em with, its where you hit em' -Jack O Connor

Some small Marine Units use 1911 design in 9mm Ive seen in Iraq, but M9, is more common. 150 gun purchase is for a small Recon unit.

Blackwater uses Sig P226  (9mm, 40) as their standard with ubiquitous Glocks.

'1911 is NOT a gun for the casual user, or what we call NDP's (non-dedicated personnel).
The gun was designed when technology was expensive, but skilled labor was not. The exact opposite is true today.
A carry 1911 should be gone over by an experienced specialist (Heinie, Burns, Yam, Yost, Garthwaite, etc) and then properly maintained by the end user.
The average cop or typical CCW holder would be better served with a Glock or SIG in most cases. If you're willing to spend the money to get a properly set up 1911 and TRAIN with it, then you're not "average".

'Nuff said.  I have fired the SA TRP and not only was it no where near as accurate as the Kimber, it in fact did jam frequently.  As a former Marine, there is absolutely "No Way" I would want to go into battle with a "pizza pistol" in a 9mm that I had to hit someone 5x's with to bring down.  You like yours, I like mine.  Love to meet with you and do some shooting sometime, where are you located?

Navy Seals have a different take on the 9mm and the Sig P226.

Kimber contract was for a few hundred guns. Beretta Outfits the Marine Corps and US Military.
LA Swat uses  Kimber.
45 1911 is chosen largely for the fast trigger, it is faster, and thats a fact. Gloc/Sig can have a short trigger put on it to help with close quarters combat and squeezing off fast follow up shots.

I guess you didnt get the news?
A Perp is suing the Boise ID Police Department.
He lived after being shot 21+ times w/ a 45acp, their standard is a Glock 21- 45acp.
45 is Not a death ray.
9mm with +P, or +P+ almost equals 357 ballistics. Bullet diameter/weightt is nearly the same.

Boise police fired 20 shots at suspect

Two Boise police officers fired at least 20 shots at a man who kicked out walls and ceilings of a North Boise condo complex while trying to evade them last Thursday, Boise police and the Ada County Critical Incident Task Force said Tuesday.
he multi-agency task force, led in this case by Meridian police, is investigating the June 5 incident that sent Dorian Michael Willes, 30, to the hospital, where he remains. He was shot in the hand, shoulder and torso area by officers firing from about three feet away, Boise police Chief Michael Masterson said Tuesday.

The incident started as part of an investigation into drug activity at Somerset Hills condos. As officers were arresting one man, they saw Willes speed away in an SUV then run into a nearby condo. A search ensued and a few hours later the Special Operations Unit was called to help.

A police dog alerted officers to the basement of a condo. Police said they told Willes to come out, but he yelled that he had a gun. The two special unit officers - Norman Carter and Jason Bruner - went into the basement, where Willes was hiding on the floor underneath sheets of plywood, not wood as earlier reported.
Willes forcefully pushed up the plywood sheets and lunged toward the officers with what looked like a gun, Masterson said. They later learned it was a soldering gun.

Prior to June 5, a member of the unit had not fired on anyone since 1985, Ritter said. Both men are on administrative leave, which is standard procedure.
Masterson defended his officers Tuesday, saying they were in imminent danger from Willes, who has a long criminal record, told officers he was armed, and refused to surrender.
"This was a sudden, unprovoked assault on police officers," Masterson said.
Willes is scheduled to be sentenced on unrelated federal firearms charges in September.'
