If the KC want to keep the bad breeders registering then they should increase the price of registering dogs of unscreened stock and reduce the price for those who have undertaken screening.  They should also colour code the registration forms - so that Joe Public can clearly understand the difference.

Bancroft, this is something that the Doberman Breed club created as a necessary requirement for a Champion dog to get a Register of Merit, (ROM) title. The american show dobes had gotten to the point that Louis Doberman would have turned over in his grave. All kind of health and severe temperament problems.(especially cardiac) So the breed club told AKC they wanted the WAC test included in the ROM designation. Since there was no actual bitework, AKC really had no grounds to forbid it. Its a major step for dobie people as these top breeders all want the coveted ROM to show the dog is a producer, but at least now it won't be a spook. And trust me I ran a lot of Champion dogs off the field just by running at them and shouting(really sad because this was a noble breed), but they are on the right track now, along with being one of the breeds that AKC will now recognize a WDS title(SCH) for dobes.

Gustav, when our BC asked the KC to withold the title of Champion unless the dog had been breed surveyed... the KC refused.

The KC do nothing to help because it could have a detrimental effect on their finances and their permission is needed for everything!  Talk about a monopoly... people get very frustrated here!

Having a great idea generally amounts to nothing... because of the KC.  Lots of great ideas fall by the wayside because of the KC, eventually... people just give up, it's bloody criminal.

Seems THE DOG LOVERS REGISTRATION CLUB(UK) are gunning for the kc too. They have started a petition, after the kc has asked parliament for statutory legal powers, to stop them becoming a monopoly. According to DL club, this would mean all breeders would have to be members of the KC's accredited breeders scheme,or be unlawful/illegal. DL say they are not anti KC, but want freedom of choice and are asking for support for thier petition. Aye right, this club WILL register anything!!!!  liz

It beggars belief Liz!  If the KC would just look beyond the purse, dogdom could move forward in this country.  They are so inflexible and stuck in the past, it's difficult to explain to people outside of this country or indeed, "outside of dogs".

I hope they lose their monopoly, I really do, maybe then... they'll take heed.

One thing is for sure, the KC will never look out side thier purse strings. No wonder some people just give up the fight, it can be so frustrating the lack of interest they have concerning the REAL issues. As i have said before many times i gave up the fight nearly 10 years ago, but i recently feel now we have a real chance to get something done,if we all stand together. If nothing improves, maybe it is the time to go it alone. liz

I have just made a complaint to the BBC about their refusal to cover Crufts.  I have put in my email that it was the ideal opportunity to show the good that breeders do in spite of the KC's attitude!

Maybe if all of us in every breed complain in the same light maybe they would do a programme highlighting the work that people do in the form of health screening etc, despite the inability of the KC to enfore the need.  That might in turn give the KC a real boot up the backside as it would show them as holding good breeders back and not highlighting the benefits a good breeder brings to any breed.

Here you go missbeeb - its an online form.  http://www.bbc.co.uk/complaints/complaints_stage1.shtml

I just feel that seeing as the BBC is paid for with public money that they should listen to what the public want, and if enough people stand up to them maybe they will see reason.  They should never lump all people in one group, its a bit like saying all football supporters are hooligans!  Most supporters I know couldnt be one even if they tried, the paperbag saying comes to mind :-))
