Liesjers

I alter some of my dogs' photos because sometimes they get washed out, or there's distracting stuff in the photo, or other things that can easily be fixed and are of no consequence.  Poor practice or not, I think it's even poorer that a dog would be judged based on a single photo...

I believe there is no harm when you adjust things in the picture but not the figure, lines or colors of the dog itself especially so you can sell it easier.

Liesjers, the poor practice is in altering a dogs structure. I think most, including myself, find nothing wrong with the things you mention.

As for judging a dog from a photo, the dogs presented were "judged" by the SV and rated V, not by anyone here.

Adjusting color may be due to poor lighting, so I'm ok with a little leeway on that. However, structural editing may be a bit too much.

i have had several posts lately on this subject. Thank you for posting such nice looking working males that are producing well. I don't know why people continue to breed such ugly working dogs when there are so many oustanding looking working dogs that work just as hard! If you are breeding to better the breed if you already have a line that works hard why not also make it look just as nice. Very good examples! This nice looking hard working SchH3 Kkl1 male is for stud in NC if anyone is interested, he is son of the 2005 bundesieger: http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/german_shepherd_dog/pedigree/551877.html

Rik, I also noticed the second dog you posted which, IMO at least, is arguably the nicer dog! A little more low slung, solid and compact

AandA, Marc is another example of very good structure that some achieve in WL. Looking at his progeny, he was also potent for passing on his type. He is grandsire of "J" litter Talka Marda.

So, who wants to go to my conformation thread and fix my dog? LOL.

It really is a little scary but explains why I thought my dog wouldn't measure up until I saw some dogs in person that I thought were so perfect, thanks to photoshop and the like. Grrr.

V-Bandit v Wolfsheim Schh3,FH,KKl-1lbz,HD/EDa-normal ZW 74 is standing in central PA. He is a "true V" in structure, though you can see in the first picture below (taken in Germany) his topline has also been altered. Second picture is "true" and not altered. Bandit is producing EXCELLENT structure, bone, pigment, temperament, nerve, drive - the total package in all of his puppies so far. Producing "SUPER" with many different females/bloodlines including show line. well I guess I can't post pictures (?????) will try in another post.

What is considered ugly and nice structure is obviously in the eye of the beholder, workingdog breeders will probably countinue to breed dogs that are not based on fads in the showring just like the founder of the breed warned us for. So I guess V structure is at the bottom of their priorities when there are so many more important things to look for.
