Not everyone wants a working or show dog..there is a place out there for the pet quality more laid back GSD....I agree with the too many breeders or rather some of the breeders out there producing too many litters in a year...Look at Sapphire Kennels here in Montana that is plannng on 4 litters in 2010, and wouldn't take back 2 of their dogs or help place them...or the gal breeder in Oklahoma that wouldn't take her dog back, and was planning on 2 or 3 more litters for next year....that is what I am pissed about not the good breeders that selectively have some good GSD pups every other year or so....we do need good dogs, just not so many dogs period..look at all the puppy mills in Missouri. I get a list of 30 some emails a day asking for help with their puppy mills down there...other breeds and GSD's...and now AKC is registering the crossbreeds????
Go figure..

How about this one?
"He was soooo cute when he was a puppy, but he got bigger than we expected."
Or this one?
"She's a really nice dog, but she chases everything she sees and chews up our shoes, and we just can't afford to keep replacing them."
There are very few excuses that are acceptable for relinquishing a dog, and the above aren't.
You know what I think they should do? Someone wants to dump a dog because it does things they don't like, and they aren't willing to train it better, so they should be forced to euthanize the dog...Not just take it and drop it off at the vet, but actually hold it in their arms and, with their children and the entire family, and be the ones to administer the injection that kills their dog. If they are faced with the horror of killing their own dog, instead of putting it into rescue, then maybe a few idiots would get the idea.
Thank you to all of you who do rescue, for opening your hearts, and homes, to the unwanted dogs that people want to throw away, You provide places for these dogs, to go, but the owners who throw them out don't learn from it, sadly.

Those people wouldn't learn no matter what they had to do....as was said earlier, they are just morons....steph

Plus, we have to be honest and acknowledge that what Pet Owner John sees as a good quality dog is a dog I would consider a piece of crap...and money has nothing to do with quality, so to me, a dog that someone paid $3500 or more for does not mean it's a good dog.
Hope I'm explaining myself better.

I know there are a lot of morons out there, morons who shouldn't be responsible for their own upkeep, or that of their children, let alone a dog. And unscrupulous breeders will pump out puppies to keep the supply up for these people...because we all know puppies are absolutely adorable! But those pups grow into dogs, and it's the owner's job to see to it that those cute puppies grow into magnificent dogs.
Look at Oakley...She's a product of a BYB, a person who had a purebred bitch, not registered, as I recall. The sire was registered, but the whole reason was to have a litter of pups to sell, with no concern for the quality, the temperament, or any of the rest of it. I have no idea what the rest of the litter ended up like, or even if they are still alive, but I can tell you that for a blind dog with questionable background, Oakley is one heck of a good dog. She's awesome.
I plan to work her in tracking, perhaps put a title on her. She's smart, pretty, and just downright sweet...Not at all a high prey drive, bite anything that moves type of dog, but wonderful nonetheless. She's perfect for me at this stage of my life, and I couldn't be happier.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
