Hello,

My pup cut the skin between the toes on his front paw (the webbing.)  Is there anything I could do for it to heal?  It is a fresh cut, no blood. On the first day he cut it there was a little blood.  It's been about 4-5 days and I still don't see it healing.  Has anyone ever heard of putting glue on a cut?

 Please help!

I've glued cuts ,lots of them. Many people use crazy glue but it has something in it that isn't good for animals and humans. If you can get Dermabond it is best. It is made for sealing cuts on flesh. It has to be a fresh cut to work correctly but even at 4-5 days maybe it would help it from re-opening. I would be a little conccerned about glueing a cut without a good surgical scrubbing first because it could get infected. Eventually it will heal on it's own but if you want to glue it after such a long time since the injury maybe you should let the vet clean it good and glue it for you. It is unlikely you will be able to buy Dermabond without the help of a Dr. anyway, but I could be wrong. It is also expensive, but nice to have on hand. Great stuff........and no,folks, I don't sell it lol.

If the cut is deep your pup might need stitches; an antibiotic should be used right away.

It is good to always have antibiotics around just in case.

You should see a DVM to be sure if stitches are necessary. For now wash the cut paw and keep it very clean and dry.

There is a product called liquid bandage that would seem to be much better than glue. It keeps the cut clean but you might need to use a elizabethan collar or "cone" to keep the pup from licking the liquid bandage (or stitches).

According to their site

http://band-aid.com/liquid_bandage.shtml

How does Liquid Bandage work?

The no sting formula dries quickly and forms a clear, flexible, breathable seal
Keeps out water, dirt and germs to help prevent infection
Creates an ideal environment for your body's natural healing process to begin

Best of luck!

There is a product called "New Skin" it acts like a band aid but it is liquid and you paint it on. Works wonders.

My female Shepherd, Tasha, cut one of her pads almost to the bone on a broke bottle some asshole threw down into the park where we used to go for our nightly runs. Thank goodness it wasn't a child who was hurt, but still, I was mad as blazes.

The vet at the emergency clinic tied off a severed blood vessel, and stitched it, but pads are like jelly in consistency, and it came open. It had to heal from the bottom up. For the first while, I kept the foot bandaged with vetwrap, plus an outside layer of that really tough surgical tape athletes use to tape joints, which made such a good bandage that she couldn't chew it off.

Once it had almost filled in, I left it open to air, and just made sure I cleaned it carefully after our nightly walk.
