Finally, after much work, I have gotten my male to AUS (mostly, hahah).

Has anyone else had a really high drive showline male (or female!) that refuses to out, and what did you do to work with them and get them to out?

HE LOVES THE SLEEVE, but will engage on someone civilly if they make threatening moves.

I found that keeping him on-lead and letting him bite, slipping him the sleeve, and then telling him to AUS (he wouldn't even give it up AFTER he had it, you had to distract him with something else and run with the sleeve in the other direction--LOL!!!). If he outs, he gets to bite again. If he doesn't out, he doesn't get to bite again. I will let him bite 6-10 times if he outs each time, otherwise just the one bite and then we're done. A couple of weeks doing this on a daily basis and now he will out (after a couple of mouthy bites to the sleeve) and bark and hold until he is supposed to engage again. I am trying to figure out how to get him to stop mouthing the sleeve when he is told to AUS.

Any ideas? I have tried numerous things, but thought someone here might know something we've yet to try!  :)  I'd like for him to have a "lasst ab", rather than a "lasst nicht ab" on his Koer, and honestly think he could do really well with further training if I could get him to out properly. I want a clean bite and out.

I think this post would be a help to more than just myself, so thanks in advance to anyone who sees fit to post!

I have a friend who swears by using a tug for the reward of the out!  In a trial the dog will never be given a dead sleeve, so when the sleeve is slipped, she has a tug ready for him, when she says out, he outs and gets the toy as his reward.

I have been told that if a dog has any type of grip issues this is not an ideal situation, but I don't know.  It works for her, that's all I can offer to ya!

The out is not about tricks; it is about good training and respect for the handeler.  Work him on the pole so that the situation can be controlled.

If I understand your post, he will not out a slipped sleeve?  Get in his ass, out is out!    A couple weeks to out a slipped sleeve?  This sounds like no respect for you.  Out is out,   crawl up his ass and make out!  Start with outing the ball.

My boy has similar issues.  The trainer says it's almost like he's tries to get off but his teeth get caught up on the sleeve (reason for the slow outs) I said YES I've noticed that happes alot...he says yeh it's an ACT, LOL.

Backtie-ing does get him into popping off like he should/  It is important in the field never to give him the opportunity to out slow  and not get corrected for it.  Always have the end of the leash or an e collar.

In the field the courage test is always his slowest out, I always have someone that can grab the line if I am across the field.

I posted this under another thread so you've probably seen it, but this is what we are doing for the outs.

Take care,
