What rating would this Xray get from OFA?  This dog is only 15 months old.  What are the chances of the hips getting better?

thanks

I calculated the Norberg angle at 105 degrees both sides.  This usually means that the dog is unlikely to develop any disabling hip dysplasia.  I don't this this xray is positioned properly.  Based on what I see you could get an OFA fair at two years old if there are no changes for the worse.

An OFA excellent is usually 115 degrees Norberg.  A 105 degrees can be an OFA fair.  About 1/2 of the ball is in the socket, usually indicative of the OFA fair rating. The ball could fit a bit better in the socket, but this is a young dog.

I do not expect that this GSD would ever limp or have a problem is he is not overweight. I would not use him for breeding however, but I like to see OFA good or better for that, but that is just my personal preference.

I found this great article on the importance of positioning on canine hip x-rays.   http://www.leerburg.com/hipart.htm  It is very informative.

Hi Kaiser, thank you for the link you posted. The information was helpful. Breeders in India are still a considerable distance away from paying attention to hips.
