Longcoated GSD where the hair is soft, long, not tight especialy noticeably long inside and on the outside of the ears, long hair behind the front and rear legs, long hair hanging from the tail.

Long hair with absolutely no undercoat, where the hair from the back is parted in the middle and hangs down the side of the dog.

This is considered as a fault by the SV . You can not show the dog at a AKC conformation Show, but you can show at a UKC conformation show.

Hope this helps.

There is such a large variety of Long Coats... There is the Stock Long Coat, with under coat and a Long Coat with minimal or no undercoat.  I have a female that most of her coat is considered short tight coat, but she has hairy ears and hariy feet, she is a Stock Long Coat.  Excessive hair or long hair on ears or feet are Long Coats no matter what the rest of the coat is like.  The interesting thing about coats is they really don't seem to get their ful and final coat until 3 years old at least in my cases, I have 3 coats now and my first GSD was a black coat that looked just like the one  triodegirl posted.

I would call your pup a long coat.  Look at the difference between the coat on him and the other dog in the picture.  "Plush" is a made up word used to describe a normal stock coat that is fuller and thicker than a more "smooth" coat.  But a dog that is called plush, doesn't have the long ear hair like your boy.

Nice pup by the way.
