Can I put hydrogen peroxide on my dogs nose for minor cuts?
by GSDguy08 on 18 June 2008 - 03:06
Iodine would probably be better to use on it. Someone told me if you use Hydrogen Peroxide too much it eats away at the tissue eventually. I think my friend whos a pharmacist told me that, but Iodine will be fine.

Noses and muzzles seem to scar rather easily. :o/
I agree-Peroxide can be corrosive and ointments will get licked off. Iodine may burn some, but probably would work best.

JMO i personally would just use saline 2/3 times per day this works well on minor cuts and scrapes
also calamine in aqueous cream stays on well and is soothing

Salt based saline is very good, I also would suggest using a cream such as betadine will heal in the healing process. Do not use surgical spirit or hydrogen peroxide. These do more damage than good

Antibiotic ointment works well on noses; I'd use a dilute iodine wash to clean the area before applying ointment. Keeping the wound from becoming dry and brittle will help reduce scarring.

Hydrogen peroxide is a lightener. I would be afraid it would discolor the nose as well....

Hydrogen peroxide can sting - don't do it! Try diluted Hibiscrub (chlorhexidine).
