Linda B

by Linda B on 04 July 2008 - 22:07

Just read Sheila Rankins Breed notes in OUR DOGS  4th July 2008 Where she writes.

The latest information on JRD and dated 26th June came from Dr Betty  Aughey at Glasgow  University who would advise not spending large sums of money on the DNA test as described so far. Dr Betty comments further that "it is very easy to create a panic in dog breeding and until the test is scientifically proven I would have nothing to do with"

Just thought those who do not subscribe to OUR DOGS and have been following this subject would appreciate knowing what is being said.

Linda B (not that stupid)

Thanks for this update.

How long before it 'disappears'...

Be assured - Many breeders and the public will not ignore or dismiss the JRD DNA Test - no matter the negative comments, no matter the fears of some breeders. The anonymous one's illustrate the fears so clearly, and comments on here keep the JRD DNA Test right in the forefront of our breeds concerns - thank you.

Since following this repetitive saga from inception, I surmised that the presence of GSD JRD, as for relevance of Dogenes’ DNA test, was well refuted. Only to now see that Mr. Payne not only resurrected previously removed Pages on his web-site – inclusive of myriad false assertions – but proceeds to advance the issue here too, while of course contradicting more expert knowledge. And after his assurance, to the great relief of many, that he’d retired from supplying such ‘assistance’: “I WILL NO LONGER BE AVAILABLE FOR ANY ADVICE, HELP OR INFORMATION IN RESPECT OF ANY GSD RELATED MATTER.”

And continuing to trade on other dog owners’ natural concerns, I note his July 5 email:

“I trust Linda will now use Corjon Mark with one of her females. THAT WILL BE THE TRUE TEST OF HER DISBELIEF IN THE JRD DNA TEST. Or better still she can request to use Nikonis Arthur, tested a Homozygote Carrier - SHOW US ALL YOU TRUE CONVICTION REGARDING THE JRD DNA TEST. I will NOT hold my breath.
I suppose Linda also believes the test for CH. Philip is meaningless????????
One very important and serious question: WHAT DOES DOCTOR BETTY AUGHEY ACTUALLY KNOW ABOUT THE JRD DNA TEST?
Considering all available information, I accept the JRD DNA Test. Others can make up their own minds. I give my dogs the benefit of ANY doubt.”

Far from Philipp’s test result being ‘meaningless’ it demonstrated conclusively – with sire and dams both testing ‘clear’ - that respective pups’ deaths was not attributable to JRD and/or that Dogenes’ test is flawed. Proffering vaunted ‘22-page autopsy report’, if only so Mr. Payne may any retain remnant credibility, seems well called for.

Speaknow comes back again under another pseudonym " Almodovar - the fourth or fifth I believe. Pitiful.
Persisting in misunderstanding and exaggerating what ever I write, and selectively choosing sentences and phrases and reproducing them out of context. His or her comments are riddled with wrong assumptions and distorted conclusions which avoid very simple realities. THE JRD DNA TEST FOR GSD IS HERE, AND BEING USED, AND "CARRIERS" AND "HOMOZYGOTE CARRIERS" AND "CLEARS" ARE BEING FOUND.

Be assured - Many breeders and the public will not ignore or dismiss the JRD DNA Test - no matter the negative comments, no matter the fears of some breeders. The anonymous ones illustrate the fears so clearly, and comments on here keep the JRD DNA Test right in the forefront of our breeds concerns - thank you.

David

As I have stated to you before our main aim here at Korzwin is to breed German Shepherds that are sound in body and mind. Keith and I have never mated any of our bitches nor do we ever intend to mate any of our bitches just to prove a point.

My beliefs regarding the JRD DNA test is that  all results are meaningless regardless of what they are and until there is any scientific proof regarding this DNA test or any evidence  that JRD even exists in German Shepherds this will continue to be MY OPINION. If I am proven to be wrong then I will be the first to say I was wrong.

For someone who states that they have the BEST INTEREST OF THE GERMAN SHEPHERD AT HEART I am surprised you have not put as much time and effort into doing something about the problems that are actually known to exist in our Breed such as CDRM(possibly the biggest killer in German Shepherds) GDV (torsion)  PANCREATIC INSUFFICIENCY or PERSISTENT RIGHT AORTIC ARCH.

Perhaps Linda you may one day learn and understand what brought JRD to my attention, although "Busters story" was on my website for quite a while. Maybe I should put it back on. If I decide to research those diseases you list, and I find that someone has found a DNA test which identifies CARRIERS and the "mode of inheritance" - Do you suggest that I conduct a GSD Study using the DNA Test, or wait maybe a YEAR or more, until ALL Patents are complete and it is published in scientific literature. This decision may be influenced if I found another dozen dog breeds using the DNA Test with confidence. But hey all that sounds very familiar doesn't it? - At least I will know what to expect from some GSD breeders and anonymous cowards. I will certainly go ahead and do exactly what I have done regarding the JRD DNA Test. Even though you and others may think a relatively low number of DEATHS from JRD are acceptable, try telling that to the owners who lose their loved pets. I will simply repeat, the JRD DNA Test has found Carriers, Homozygote Carriers, and Clears in German Shepherd Dogs, and I will, like many others who JRD DNA Testing their GSD, give my dogs the benefit of any doubt. Dr. Betty Aughey has merely stated her opinion to which she is entitled, although in my opinion this does not serve our breed well. It is ironic, however, that I understand A.S. Nash is a professor at the University of Glasgow, and he wrote the comments found on the following webpage: http://www.videxgsd.com/nash_RD_in_DOGS.htm
