Hey guys... I have been learning about dogs on the internet for years now, but hardly ever being any knowledgable people I have never actually learned how to pronounce alot of kennel names and words. I have seen them all a billion times and I got my own way of saying them in my head. lol.(Probably nothing like the real word.) I was wondering if you could help me learn how to pronounce them...Here they go...Mostly kennel names...

Pohranicini Straze

Anrebri

Blatenskeho Zamku

Jirkova Dvora

Salztalblick

Leryka

Correct way to say a dog is KKL1 or 2...Do you say the word Koerklasse1 or do you just say kkl1?

Also what does WUSV stand for? What exactly is it?

I feel dumb asking all this but I really have no other way of learning them...and there is ALOT more I dont know this is just off the top of my head.

Thank you

Kelly

WUSV, is the world union of german shepherd dog clubs.

i say korklasse 1 or 2.  you may also hear people say "koered"

only kennel name i know is salztablick.  pretty much pronounced as it looks.  i could never get  Pohranicini Straze, so i say zps.

I usually just mumble and say the word fast with the hopes the person I'm speaking with does not know how to say it either...  But, seriously the correct pronunciations from someone who's native language that is would be appreciated.  Good question Kelly.

You can google a lot of these things and get results with tons of info. You can also read books like Fred Lanting's and learn that way. An English/German dictionary is sometimes helpful if you can remember that many German words are compound words - that is, made up of two (or more) words. The dictionary has a pronunciation guide in it and will help with German pronunciation.

Hmm, I am time tripping and remembering days of my youth that are so long ago and far away when I was struggling to correctly pronounce the English "th", "ch", and "j"  sounds. I do not know proper phonetic symbols so this is the best approximation that I can make. The German language has some very unique sounds that are not present in English, and of course vice-versa.

How would one explain how to pronouce W.U.S.V.? Vay Ooo Ess Fau; essentially the sounds of the German alphabetic characters. The meaning of the abbreviation?  Welt Union Schäferhundvereine, so pronouce it like this: Velt Oon-ion Shaefer-Hoond-Fereyen-a. But this is only important if one needs a native German speaker to understand what one means. It essentially means what it sounds like: the World Union of Shepherd Dog Clubs, and in our case it concerns the German Shepherd Dog.

Körklasse1? Just say "Kir-klass-a eyens". For  Körklasse 2?  Just say "Kir-klass-a zveye".  The German vowel "ö" has a very special sound that is difficult for English speakers, so I can only approximate it here.

For Salztalblick, just pronounce it as "Zalts-tal-bleek.  My advice? Ask a German to pronounce the words for you, and repeat them until you can make them correctly. As far as the other words/names are concerned, obviously some are Czech and I am no help there.

Best Regards,

Bob-O

Kelly

Use this, if you are serious.  It is not hard to learn how to pronounce German plus a few dozen words and expressions.
