I will agree that some animals can not be relocated such as bears, alligators, etc, but I still stick to what I said before. It is inhumane to bring down the population as they are doing. There is also such a thing as birth control for animals as well. I would personally love to see some wolfs over in my area. As someone stated in this post, some people for generations have learned how to live with wildlife and also learned how to respect them. There are better and more humane way's to deal with over popluation than doing what their doing. Wolf's mate for life and sometimes if their life long mate dies by what ever means then they end up dying as well. Not all but some do. I'm totally against the way their handling it. Do they really know how many wolfs are in Alaska? Are they just assuming there are too many?  Sorry but I am staying with how I feel and that is MHO.

Hi Kelly,

Do not be afraid that as Vice president, Palin can somehow decide whether wolves will be driven to extinction.  Congress, not the Executive branch of our government, makes the laws.  In addition, while the President (that would be John McCain) nominates the Secretary of the Interior, he does so with the approval of the Senate.  Only in the case of a tie, does the President of the Senate, the Vice President, have a vote.  The Vice president's only power is to break a tie in the Senate. The chance of Palin getting to decide to eliminate wolves as a matter of national policy is infinitesimal, pretty much like the chance of winning a million dollar lottery.

The voters of the US want the wolf in the wild, but there do have to be limits.  I think relocation is a viable option, except in the case of an animal being a serial livestock killer, or a danger to people, for instance.  If the lupine population becomes large enough to become a nuisance, then biologists may suggest a reasonable hunting season.

I will add this statement.  As recently as the 1940's, whitetail deer were nearly wiped out.  It has been with the promotion by hunters and their license fees and support, that the whitetail population in the nation's east has skyrocketed, and is now higher than ever.  In fact, deer are a menace on many of our country's highways, and they cause numerous accidents:

I'm kinda wishing the white tail deer HAD been wiped out. I'm getting sick of paying to repair my van after hitting the damned things. They freaking EVERYWHERE around here! (except, of course, during hunting season.) I'm getting to where I don't even like deer meat anymore. At least wolves have the good sense to stay out of the road. I used to pale at the thought of killing Bambi. Now I wish I had a machine gun mounted on an Abrams tank every time I head down the road.

A buddy of mine flipped his truck three times swerving to avoid one...he actually got up and walked out of his upside down car....I was right behind him and ended up taking him to the hospital....other than a deer jumping into a friends car (convertable) in DC and the occasional bambi-gangs that walk up to my house and apartment and the nearby roads (and FT Pickett) (and maybe that one time where my ex beheaded one with his bumper guarded dodge ram 250) I havent had a meeting with a deer personally....thank goodness O.o

They're ALL over DC...and we cant shoot them there :(

Shelly unfortunately they do not have the good sense to stay off the road. I know of 3 that were killed on I-90 this year between mile marker 0 and 40. One lady stopped to report it thinking it was a bear she had hit. I hear these things because hubby works for DOT and sometimes either he or his co-workers go to pick them up. Not near as many wolves killed as deer though. But 10 years ago it probably would have made headline news.

"Very simple question - do you think humans have the right to take over any and all wildlife habitats and kill off the native animals that they feel threaten their lifestyle? Yes or no? If yes, what gives them that right?"

No they sure don't but when we do it to other humans, what is a stupid ole wolf to us? I'd be much happier if the Natives still ran this country and it's bounties. Nothing is sacred anymore, people come first, strong people. The weak get pushed aside, it's that way in nature too so not all that surprising. The wolves do need population control and the quickest cheapest way is probably airial shooting. I don't agree with it, it's not sport but a airial shot wolf I'm sure dies faster than a trapped for fur wolf or a starved or diseased wolf. I'd much rather we all die and they be free to roam but unless I kill you all, here we are. I pick the lesser of the evils. Thin them out quick and painless. Wolves are not slow breeders, not in danger of going extinct or being only seen in Zoo's. They don't have 1 or 2 cubs like some species every year or 2.

4Pack,

You sound kinda bummed out today,  I sorta agree with you in part.

But This too shall pass.

All thing's considered shooting from a plane might be faster, but never could it be cheaper than just letting hunter's have at it.

Hunter's bring money in, and it would be more humane.

In bad time's when food is scarce wolve's wont reproduce.   I agree they are not going to become extinct just yet.

Dieing from natural cause's hard as it seem's is much better than being terrorized and wounded several time's.

A trapped animal depending on the method may suffer some but is not terrorized, and die's a quick death in the end.

Hope your day brighten's up a little.

Brent.

Aww 2, you noticed. I haven't posted much, too busy shuttling my family back and forth to a not local hospital where my granfather is. Hoping to get him tranported closer to his home here. It's been a long week without missing a beat at work. My aunt flew out yesterday from Utah to help me, it eases the workload but adds it's own set of strains as well. Too many cooks in the kitchen and non can agree what's for dinner.
