LOOKING FOR ADVICE I HAVE A PUP FOUR MONTHS OLD AND HIS NOSE HAS STARTED TO GO PINK MY VET SAID HE IS SHORT ON ZINK AND HAS GAVE ME PILLS FOR IT BUT THIS IS NOT WORKING

Robert, if you are referring to your puppy's nose slowly fading from black to pink in a sort of stripe from the center of the nose out, I think your puppy has what is commonly referred to as a "snow nose". It will fill in when the days get longer. As gsherwood said, it's from a lack of sunshine. Zinc won't help, mother nature will take care of it for you at no cost.

I had the same thing happen to my female last winter.I was was all tore up over it but my Vet thought it was Winter Nose and He was right . When it started warming up the pink went away and this winter it hasn't turned pink.......Rodd

I had a couple of dogs in the past who would get a snow nose every winter. It is a temporary condition but does not look so good. Is there a (healthy) way to prevent this? Hey Blitzen, should we send these dogs to the tanning bed? Just kidding. Chris

LOL, Chris, that would probably do it. Every winter I could always count on one or two getting a snow nose, not always the same ones from year to year either. The sleddog people think nothing of it, it's just part of the cold weather. I've only heard of it happening to kennel dogs, so maybe keeping a dog inside might prevent a snow nose, not sure.
