Hello all, Yes, I'm a newby to the board, but not to GSDs. I have owned them my whole life, and worked them in the military. I currently own Conan vom Baphomet, a solid black import from Germany. He has his BH, is 6 years old and wonderful. I was looking through some posts on this board, and saw all of the argueing...I hope this isn't like some other boards I have been on!! I also own a Giant Schnauzer, Elite vom Elberfeld, AD, BH, SchH2. She is great!! Anyway, I look forward to some insightful chats in the future!!

Welcome bigdoglover; You will find a lot of insight, useful information, and a lot of petty controversy here. The good definitely outweighs the bad. Some people thrive on controversy in their real life, and are compelled to bring it to the internet annonymously, but if you can overlook those- then you will enjoy your time here. There is a Giant Schnauzer in my Sch club as well, and I was quite surprised at how well that dog moves. Good luck.

Konigtum, Thank you. As I said, I owned GSDs, but never got into pedigrees and lines until this one. I am going to be dumb and ask a few questions. What is DDR? And how do Czech dogs rate against German bred? I aquired a Czech GS that had terrible lines, and terrible health (my own fault). But I understand Czech lines are making a comeback so to speak, is this true? What should I look for (names, etc)? I would appreciate any info you guys can give!

Depends. Are you looking at working lines or show lines? I'd say Pohranicni straze are decent Czech lines for working dogs, as they are Czech border patrol dogs. What information exactly are you trying to acquire? Czech against German dogs for what? Hips? Conformation? Working ability?

I prefer the working lines. I am just trying to get my information straight, as there is so much out there. I am not necessarily trying to aquire another dog just yet, but if I do in the future, I want to know what I am looking at. I, like everyone else, would like a dog to have it all. And by that I mean good hips, conformation, drive, and overall working ability. But I don't want one I have to keep in the kennel all the time. I like my dogs in the house!! I will look into the Pohranicni Straze lines. Like I said, I am new to the GSD lines, and just trying to get as much good info as I can.

DDR is basically an East German Bred dog back when the wall was still up. Czech dogs are decended from DDR lines. Here are some good websites for you to look at about DDR/Czech dogs. http://www.jinopo.cz/main.htm (This site is the kennel of the guy who basically ran the breeding program for the Pohranicni Straze (Border Patrol)). http://www.vomdomburgerland.nl/eng_czech.html http://www.vandenheuvelk9.com I personally love the DDR/Czech dogs over all other GSDs. I just got a new pup from Van Den Heuvel K9 out of Norbo Ben Ju and Exa z Esagilu. I like the bigger bone and bigger heads of the DDR/Czech dogs.
