Just received this email, I'm sorry Gayle, for your loss. Sad news. . . Suddenly and unexpectedly, 2001 USCA Sieger, 3 times VA, many times SchH 3 and FH, Utz v. Hirschel died this afternoon as a result of metastatic cancer and internal bleeding. He never showed any symptoms until last night and did not suffer. As throughout his life, he showed us dignity, pride, stoicism, and a pragmatic acceptance of nature's order. Just several days ago he was running next to the bicycle and playing with pups in our "woods". "Trick" was one of the great ones. May his many kids and grandkids preserve his grand legacy. Dear Ms. Kirkwood, I am sorry to hear of the loss of your wonderful dog Utz. I never knew him, but I have seen his photos and always heard about him. I am curious to know if he died from bleeding due to a hemangiosarcoma? This type of cancer is very common it seems in GSDs. I would like to ask the Morris Foundation to see if some vet school could not do research into this common cancer and others. I have personally had a dog die from this, and a friends dog died in my arms as I was carrying her into a vet after the friend called me early one morning to tell me her dog could not get up. The dog had this type of cancer and, as you know, such tumors are very vascular and tend to bleed suddenly and without warning. In any case, my condolences to you for your loss.

Gayle - Sorry for your loss - our thoughts and prayers go out to you. I know the loss. TO HODIE: Thank you for your ambitious work with the Morris Foundation - I will tell you I went through the whole hemangiosarcoma thing with all of the vets at the UofM vet school in Minneapolis and I also would give $$$$$$$$$$$$ to the research. Good luck and let me know if I can be of any help.

It never gets any easier to lose a beloved 'friend' & companion, no matter what they may or may not have achieved, all are precious and 'special' in their own way to those who owned them. Some are more 'special' only in the fact that through their achievements their passing effects more people. Gayle, I know the sadness you feel and hope you take comfort in the knowledge that many share your grief and that he lives on through his progeny. Sincere Sympathies Sue B
