The BBC are paid a licence fee (it's well over £100 a yr now) by each and every household in the UK (that has a television)... that's a lota money right?  So, we should have more control but we don't.  Us Brits always wait till we're backed against a wall before we do anything!

I know nothing about Show Dogs as i have often said, But i always watch  the Crufts Dog show, it is famous throughout the world

But i do marvel at the Dogs condition and i really appreciate the work the owners have put in, so much time in getting the Dogs to perfection,

It is like Show Pigeons I am a Racing Man but the show pigeons are as much work to the owners and when i go to the Olympiad in Jan in Germany i always look and marvel at the work put into these birds to get them looking the way they do, and so it is with Crufts

The BBC should never dictate what breeds can be entered they are no dog experts and it is nothing to do with the people in charge of the BBC, it is totally wrong and i hope the people of the Dog show world make that known to them in the strongest way possible

Plus they want the  German Shepherd  Dog out as well, the mind boggles at the thought

Yes, the mind does boggle at the thought Steve, especially since the BBC have done nothing to correct their mess of a programme, full of selectively edited footage, half truths & bias.  Then they think they should have the power to dictate... dear God, what next?

Wonder how we can boycot the BBC??

I've had a wonderful day today at LKA, which is also held at the NEC and there was a fab selection of dogs as there was Utility, Toy, Working and Pastoral all attending the show.  Unfortunately they do not hold GSD classes, but the atmosphere was great and most people didnt seem that bothered by the BBC pulling out.

I do agree that if another channel was to get the rights to broadcast that a better coverage of the breeds could be done and showing the strengths of each breed could be highlighted - basically do the opposite of the BBC programme.

Yes, Missbeeb

They can put on weeks and weeks of Snooker and Darts many times a year, Boring games which are not really sports in the right sense, Beer Bellies and Stables of players, all in together, makes one wonder, and i bet the ratings are not that high

For me if they are on the Tele goes off or i watch a Dutch or German or French programme instead.

Perhaps not French, they speak too fast for me to watch for long

The BBC have gone downhill over the years and they act like dictators in many ways

Unfortunatly we cannot get ITV over here, they were my favorites when i lived in England ,I miss the Horse Racing specially the Steeple chasing

Bancroft, if you knew what you were talking about, your comment would be insulting... but it isn't.

A great many breeders take every care possible to produce the best possible.  How many "show line" dogs have you worked / tried to work?

The GSD Breed Council, are trying to get the KC to accept a proposal which would go a long way to improve the present situation.  It says much that they are forced to consider the greed of the KC before presenting them with any proposal.

If you feel the need to have a go, have a go at the KC, for they could and should do so much for dogdom in this country by simply refusing to register progeny from parents who have not met necessary health and working criteria.

Consider backing "us" rather than the BBC.

Bancroft - if you do your homework, you will find that the majority of people who show their GSDs also undertake the health screening for the breed.

The damage to our breed has been done by the puppy farmers who are only interested in the profit.  I have a dog who is of show lines and he will be having his 13th birthday party on boxing day and he has had no illnesses over the years that are associated with the breed.

As well as my GSDs I also have a Cardigan Corgi who I show, in part to raise awareness of their listing on the Vulnerable List, and it is due to my attending shows with her that I get to listen to the public opinion at shows and whilst out teaching dog awareness.  I am often asked about the health issues of the GSD and I am proud to be able to say that all my dogs (even the pet ones) have always been health screened.

Unfortunately the approach the BBC has taken has lumped all breeders together and has not recognised the good from the bad.  Furthermore by boycotting the show the BBC are refusing to give the other side a chance to stand up and show evidence of the work that is being done for the dogs future health.  This in my opinion is totally biased and something I personally detest.

The BBC should be providing both sides of the debate and the fact that they have shown 1 programme showing the bad shows them in very poor light indeed.  If the public are not given the opportunity to see the other side how can they be educated and shown how to find better breeders and dogs in the future.  I prefer to be told whats wrong and then informed of what is right - all the BBC have done is said that the GSD is flawed and not recognised that actually there are some stunning examples of the breed out there both in construction and health and that is what we should actively seeking out.

why is it that it is always the people who dont do, that have the most to say,(bancroft) most breeders in the uk will test their breeding stock before breeding with them and remember this is not mandatory we do this to help better the breed and hopefully better the sire/dam and as long as the kc will register anything you will get breeders who will breed anything but they in this country are a minority and hopefully will be a thing of the past when the kc realise that it is their policy that causes puppy farms, breeding of unscored and untested stock when they start to register only stock from tested scored parents then all breeders will need to comply to register their puppies.
