Sunsilver:

Now that I've read a bit about the Shilohs - how does "Tina" explain (if it is true) the fact that she does not accept OFA and Penhip for hip testing?  Is it true that she has some kind of shadowy closed hip evaluation method to "trick" people into thinking that the hips are OK?

I can't remember where I read that - but for all the politcs around this "new breed" - I found that to be the most disturbing.  Any truth to it?

Luv, that is total misinformation. ALL ISSR breeding stock is hip certified, and many are Penn hipped, as that's what Fred Lanting, Tina's hip mentor, likes to see done. She does NOT, however, allow OFA to post the results for her dogs on their website.

I asked Tina about this myself, when someone posted that exact same thing once before, and that's what she told me!

If you read Tina's book, you'll see that the problems she had with dysplasia nearly made her give up breeding. I think that's how she got to know Fred, because she was trying to find out how to best combat the problem.  After all the agony and disappointment she suffered over dysplasia, she'd be foolish indeed NOT to get hips certified.

Sunsilver   Your posts about Shilohs are nothing more than regurgitated "Tina ism's".   I suggest everyone realize she can't help herself, let her spew some more ridculous nonsense and then let this stupid thread die.

soooo annnyyywwaaayyyy....

Sunsilver:

Did the dogs have a greater degree of dysplasia because of their big size?  I can see that might happen.  Also, do you know why she does not want the hip scores posted?  And what is this Lanting character's claim to fame with respect to hip scoring?

Sue, what gives YOU the right to call the Shiloh breed founder a liar? Have you spoken to her? Do you have some inside information that we don't know about?

If so, please share!

Fred Lanting is the author of a book on Canine Orthopedics. http://www.fredlanting.org/freds-books/  He is also a very respected judge, and is one of the few people ever licensed to judge both in the SV show ring in Germany, and in the AKC and CKC show rings in North America.

And the dogs that nearly put Tina out of the breeding business were AKC registered GERMAN SHEPHERDS. As a matter of fact, one high priced German import had both hips completely out of their sockets. This really threw Tina for a loop, as he'd been climbing 8 foot scaling walls, in preparation for his schutzhund titles!

I am not sure why she doesn't want hip scores posted, but I DO know, she tries to keep the breeders who have broken away from her from getting information on her dogs. That could be the reason.

Edit: Two Moons, WHAT was real snakeskin? You've got me curious to know! (Yeah, hot looking car!)
