Unfortunately it appears our search may have come to an undesirable end.

Kassandra, the owner of the dog, received a phone call from a woman stating she saw a dog fitting the description of Striker get hit by 2 vehicles Fri or Sat., eve, near the Days Inn on S. Washington St.

Police reports have confermed this. The report states the dog was in fact hit twice and was VERY bad off, but was able to run off and no body was found that night. The description, location and time fits to a tee. While there is a SMALL chance he is alive by the description given by witnesses, the chances are slim. Every vet in the area was contacted again to see if a dog was brought in fitting the description but no luck. We will walk the area in the morning but you have to remember, this happened a WEEK ago.

Say a prayer for Kassandra and for Striker. Thank you all so much for your thoughts, prayers, and help. I know there were MANY people who rallied for this and it  was VERY much appreciated. I just wish I had better news.

Oh nooo.  How very sad.   My heart is breaking with this news.  I pray it was some other dog.  Poor, poor thing.  Poor Kassandra.  Please let us know good or bad.  We need the closure.

Wow what a day. We received the call yesterday about a dog being hit by a car and it made since as to why not one single sighting was reported in the entire week. By the description this lady left, it was catastrophic and the chances this dog lived were slim to none.

Low and behold, the phone rang this morning at 11:00am and it was the Geary Co Sheriffs office. They had just received an anonymous tip from an elderly lady that a dog fitting strikers description has been in the backyard of a house located at Cypress and Highland for 3 days that she knew of. This particular house has never had a dog before. That was all the info thy were willing to give.

Casandra has been staying with me and I am an hour & 1/2 east of Junction City.

Not more than 15 minutes after that call, we received a call that a Blk/Tan GSD was running loose at Cypress and Highland. Within the Next hour and 10 minutes (as we were racing to get to town) the phone rang no less than 12 times with sightings. We called every person in the area we knew, the dog catcher, and the police to try and capture the dog. As we pulled into town, we had a member of the police department waiting at the Washington street exit to guide us to where the dog was last spotted. Police K9 trainer and friend Nelson Rivera was on the scene, along with several police cruisers. He had gotten within 20 feet of the dog but was unable to capture or coax the dog in. He has color photos of Stryker and he was sure it was him. Nelson knows dogs very well. People tried very hard to keep him in their sights without trying to chase him but every report was the same, the dog was RUNNING SCARED.

Some really great sport friends and dog lovers came from surrounding areas to help search for him, Malinda , Kathy and Stacy all drove an hour in to town to help search and hang flyer's. We all walked allot of miles and passed out TONS of flyer's. Not one more sighting called our phone but we did run across a couple of people who had seen the dog at about 4:00, but nothing after that. It was like he just dropped off the radar! I suspect he was held up under a shade tree because by reports of his locations and times, he covered quite a bit of ground in a short amount of time.

He is certainly leery of all people right now and running scared, Its like he knows everyone is out to get him, he just doesn't know that they are here to help get him home. We have asked every person we spoke to, to please not chase him but try to keep him in their sights till we get there. We just need another break of a sighting while Kassandra is there!

The other bit of good news came around 3:00 when we got a call from the lady driving the second car who hit the dog last Friday. The dog not only walked away but in fact he RAN away. The nice lady had the compassion to call the police to help her locate the dog and stayed searching for 30 minutes. Once again, the dog was running scared but seemed fine in appearance and she said the dog was VERY fast on his feet.

We stayed searching till dark, Left a towel with Kassandra's scent at the location of the last sighting and headed home. We will be back at it come dawn.  Although not found yet this is very good news. We have hope again!!!!

Our plans are to set up camp in town till he is found, that way we can be in the area when the next call comes in!
Please everyone, keep praying for stryker!

Oh, JoAnn, what encouraging news!  Poor puppy!

You are all in my prayers.  Sounds like the person who had him in their yard found out the cops had been called and turned him loose.  AARRGHH.

I'm late to this thread but to answer one of your first questions - the American Red Cross works with military families and can either help your friend or steer her to where she can get help.

GOOD LUCK!
