Hello.
What do you suggest (other than swimming) for tigthening up a dog's loose hind end?  Hips are fine but dog just seems far too loose.  Carpet mill?  I have noticed that when this dog runs the legs almost flop out to side....angulation issue?  Too long in the upper leg?  Anyway....can and the hind end be tightened?  I think it is a young adult dog.

Hi

My opinion...................has dog been to vet to make sure health bones, joints, all in good working order, how old is dog?

I know to tighten a horses rear we did alot of slow climbing up hills, etc.Pusing with rear in uphil motion, still think swimming is best.

LOOSE ENDS ARE NEVER A GOOD THING. ITS GOOD TO HAVE A TIGHT END. ITS LIKE IF WE ARE TALKING FOOTBALL. SITASMOM USED TO BE A TIGHT END BUT NOW SHE IS A WIDE RECEIVER.

One of my males was loose at the rear as a juvenile, I did plenty of free running on soft ground and on moorland, especialy uphill (we have plenty around here) I didnt have access to water or sand, but he turned out strong at the rear with 0:0 hips.

Don't know the age of the dog.  Maybe 2-4 yrs.  So development likely complete.  Can it be a ligament issue?  The club member has indicated that no tests have been abnormal to date....dog has always been this way.

Ok Ronnie...still laughing at that one....

I would let the dog be loose on say at least one acre.  The dog might be loose from lack of exercise. You can also go hiking with the dog to strength up the rear.
Alot of people do use sand but you would have to find a real sandy area, like the beach dunes or something.
Hiking is good, up and down hills. But, really take the dog out to open fields and let it run
Sometimes they can be cow hocked. That might give that look of being loose.
But, it shouldn't be that noticable.
