Hi there, i had a puppy with agrade 5 at 6 weeks, by 10 weeks it had gone. Alot of puppy mumur's do right themselves. What has your vet said about it? The puppy we had is leading a happy healthy life with no problems whatsoever. I know of a few dogs now well into adult life living with heart murmurs with no problems. Hope everything works out well for your puppy, have you informed your breeder? Liz

did you get written a guarantee?

switch with another puppy ASAP, before your heart strings become cables.

Was your puppy health checked by a vet before you bought him?

A heart murmur should have been picked up  when he was vaccinated and checked.

Return him to the breeder ASAP don't wait another day. Save yourself the heartache.

The breeder should offer you another puppy, if one is available or give you a full refund.

Not saying that this breeder is dishonest but sometimes breeders can try to unload a puppy with a problem and hope you don't find out until it is too late and you are too attached.

If I sold a puppy and discovered that my vet missed a grade 5 heart murmur I would  " NOT BE VERY HAPPY" It shouldn't happen.

I had a pup with a grade 5 that was caught at the first vet visit. I placed him with a friend. He is now 11 months old and the the apple of her eye. He runs with her daily and shows no signs of distress. While she and the pup are happy for now, time may write a diffrent story. She knew what she was getting into from the start and let me tell you, it still breaks her heart (and mine) that his heart did not heal.

Please save yourself the heartache. Return the puppy now.

If you are a kind sole who is willing to take a chance on this pup as a companion only, any breeder worth their weight in shi@ will refund your money 100%, & let you keep the pup. One of 3 things will happen:
1- He out grows the heart murmer, you fix him and you have a great companion for a very long time.
2- His heart murmer stays with him, you may have to give him medication for the rest of his life, he lives a good full life with no complications but is unable to be fixed due to his heart not being able to withstand anestisia. (lots to think about)
3- He dies young or heaven forbid it worsens, you have to be ready to make the right decision to let him go easy without pain and suffering.

Best of luck to you and this pup. Its never easy.

I am so sorry this is happening to you. JoAnn sums it up very well, this is going to be a very hard decision for you but make sure it is the best one for you and the quality of life for the pup.
Always,
Cee

I got my 12 week old GSD puppie yesturday (my first) and today took him to the vets, I was told he has a heart murmur also. The vet never said how bad it was but said i could get a scan done if I want to. I was shocked and very annoyed with myself and the breeder. He was cheap only 200 pounds and i never asked the questions i should of. I never asked for vet check proof and I have no papers. Looking back now it seems like he made us go for this pup by saying the rest where taken. He knew I was not experienced and just after a companion. Im upset for my pup and im already attached to him. One thing is for sure and that is I am going to keep him no matter what.

Also. He seems to eat then play for about five minutes then sleep or lie down. He always seems to be sleeping. Is this normal pup behaviour or is this the heart murmur effecting him?
