Franki was a spontaneous mutation.  People on here are wondering how all these spontaneous mutations could keep popping up, if they are truly spontaneous.  The breeders do not necessarily keep getting spontaneous mutated GSDs, they are breeding panda shepherds they have to standard white GSD, at least that's how I got mine. So for the nay sayers out there, that cannot be used as an argument against the pandas.  some people may still be accidentally getting them, but at least one's like my breeder are breeding pandas with whites. i will try to post pics of mine sometime.  she is about 11 weeks old.

If I understand you correctly, you are saying they are breeding them on purpose?  That is wrong.

I was wondering if it had anything to do with the white masking gene...like an incomplete gene?

this did not come from the whites.  in Frankies pedigree,  there are not any white dogs.

Whoops, this got posted in the wrong place...oh well.  Yes there are breeders breeding them on purpose.  I just bought one. And in the first lines of Pandas there are no whites in the history.  However, now they breed pandas with whites and get some regular black/tan, black, or sable shepherds and some pandas.  site: www.pandashepherds.com.  Some breeders may be getting some as result of spontaneous mutation, but the 2 breeders in the U.S. and Canada that do intend to breed pandas get them from whites x panda. (not sure if they breed black/tan with panda).  Cannot get panda pups by breeding panda x panda - you just get all regular pups.

Gosh maybe the next mutation will give us a German Shepherd Hairless??  Great for folks with allergies, but ya'd need to make them snow suits to go out and do any kind of work......

In other words... not all mutations are good for the breed, nor the use of the breed.
