* "I gave her only a 60 day guarantee on the second dog" *

-- He gave HER only a 60 day guaranteee on the second dog. This could have been a verbal or digital communication, hence the siggy on the contract.

Either way, it's been 8 months now on Jan 2, 2009   (edit : 2010)

What is your point again, Krazy ?

by beetree on 04 January 2010 - 17:01

What is your point BE? RR/PetVillage is no longer under contract to take the dog back, that is indisputable.  They never want to take dogs back, but especially ones that go past that written point. They are EXPERTS  by all accounts and yet they mismatched this customer twice. That is the point. And they have ignored attempts to be contacted because they aren't interested in further dialogue with the customer or the well being of the dog. That's where the RESCUE part comes in, as in voluntary surrender. Quarantine laws are varied you mention it as yet another red herring.

Krazy Bout K9's is exposing the truth, how this high class workingline GSD ended up in her hands. And since the players are known names, it would seem the business of dogs and the ideals espoused here of breeding for the standard, are getting fuzzy.

-- This working dog ended up in Krazy's hands because it did it's job, protecting the owner. That is clear.

"protecting her from her husband"   these are some strong words.

That is where PetVillage failed the second time. By now all us armchair quarterbacks have figured out these people should not own this level of dog, and this should have been clear to an EXPERT, which PetVillage claims to be.

Honestly the original owners of this dog shouldn't be allowed to own a goldfish.

The only point is to warn people that when they do business with certain people, they will be on their own.  That's that.

There is something fishy about the practice of taking back a pup you sold, paying two thousand for another dog, a neutered male, at that, and then giving him to a customer, without apparently teaching that customer how to handle the dog.  Then to not return phone calls for help shows even more clearly.  What kind of a GSD breeder is "Pet Village, LTD"?  Is Pet Village, Ryan Reid's business, that is part of Ray Reid's business, the actual seller of the dog, not Ray Reid, as Ray Reid, or Vom Haus Reid?

And if you have a written contract that says as is, no warranty, then you have a verbal "sixty day warranty", which will stand up in a court of law? The signed document that the judge can see, or the 'he said, she said'?

One thing I do know is that Steph, who is a rescuer of our magnificent breed, has a heart of gold, and is always only a phone call away from any of us who have adopted a dog from her, no matter how long it has been, and even though she is not a breeder, she is the first option to an owner if they have to rehome the dog...You can't just dump the dog, you have to return it to Montana GSD Rescue.  In my opinion, good breeders will always take back the dogs they have bred OR bought and sold.

Sorry to be so passionate about this subject, but it's irritating to see people put down rescues, call them profitable businesses, when so many of those people either breed or have bought a dog from a breeder, and didn't mind paying one thousand, two thousand and far more for the dog they bought..  There is no profit in the rescue business, only the very luckiest even get close to breaking even.  Food, medical care, training, toys, all that costs money.  Lots of money.  So much money that donations are needed in addition to adoption fees, even if the fees are five hundred or more.  Hodie spent over $21,000 in one year on medical care alone!  And you think there's profit?  Give me a break.  You think it's all so easy, why don't a few of you naysayers try playing the rescue game for a few months, without charging for the dogs or asking for donations.  Be available for calls twenty four hours a day, be prepared to drive two or three hundred miles to get a dog or deliver a dog.  Be prepared, at the drop of a hat, to spend thousands trying to treat a dog you may have to euthanize anyway.  And when you realize it is impossible to do without help, then you'll have an understanding of the issues at work here.

Lastly, PETAPAL, that's a silly name to use to come onto a list where the name PETA is reviled.  We know what PETA's ultimate goals are, so that pic of the elephant on your avatar, doesn't really garner any sympathy.  There are far too many people subjected to the cruelty of their fellow man on this old world today to really be swayed by the pithy emotional drama of a fringe nut group like PETA.  Any group of people who would wipe out all domesticated animals, by euthanasia or whatever other means, are to me of less value that that nest of yellow hornets I torched last summer.  And just in case you don't know your own cause...Dr. Michael Fox, made the statement that the life of an ant and life of his son should be given the same value.

How can the owner be taught anything if they don't even show up to pick the dog up in the first place?

From everything written here, the 'fishy' part of the story is the damn owners but as TM's said, 'he said/she said' the dog is the one who's lost the most.

by beetree on 04 January 2010 - 17:01

Sorry Crys, I believe I have researched that ant quote before, and I believe you quote a popular misattribution taken out of context. It was made by a prez of the US Humane Society while Dr. Fox was on their board. Or something close to that. Look it up.

This quote is just as bad.
