And Steph, very kind of you to offer the meds.  If this works out and she can keep the dog with the boy, I'll send my small donation to you.  I should anyway, I love the work you're doing!  Once I get my life together, you'll be my favorite charity!

Children have a way of bouncing back,
I know how mine would feel, been there before.
The kids pull on my heart strings more than the dogs do I guess.

Yes stay away from Banfield.I worked at the one in Gurnee Il and I am sure that are all the same. There were 3 dogs that died from vax and 10 that got sick in the 3 weeks i worked there. NO dogs died from vax in the 3 years I worked at Animal Hospital of Gurnee. You might want to check them out.Ask for Dr Rogers. He is the kindest person I know and really cares. They take payments and sometimes cut deals. Best of luck to you and Kudos for Steph and Moons for helping out

Sorry DakotaCody about the comment of me not breeding myself, was out of place on this thread, just came to me because of another breeders thread we have been on....Sorry...

Anyhow,
I think that this dog Nala and Cody are meant to be together, Please do as Lav suggested and check out the vet she recommended...
It sounds to me that Nala knew Cody's condition and is there to keep helping him along...

Beverly.....I am going to forward the story to some people I know. They might be able to tell me where you can get funding for this. I train service dogs and I know there is funding out there to care for dogs that are of assistance to someone.I would say that Nala is of some assistance to Cody. A dog like Nala isn't easy to come by.There was something from the start and you can't create that. Don't give up hope...there has to be something...or someone out there that can help.

Hi Dakota,  being close to a vet school that has a board cert opthalmologist, I am surprised that Banfield did not refer you to them. Optim oint can be expensive and the tubes are smaller.  There are many pets with the same problem as your dog, that are on cyclosporine 1 % eye drops that can last up to 2 months.  $ 40.00  at a compounding pharmacy.  They are well and are controlled

Always,
Cee

We had a POA pony years ago with "moon blindness."  I opted to have her eyes removed.  She lived a long happy life and was even still ridden, she would go where ever you pointed her.  This might be an option for your dog and a much cheaper surgery and no pain or aftercare.

hi everyone,

this is going to be a very long reply,

i have talked to my husband about this, how some people are willing to help us out with the care for our Nala.

we want to keep her, she is our baby. she holds  this family together..

our life here at home is very stressful. we  should get 16 hours a day for nursing for cody we are lucky when we have

a weeks full  midnights covered. (unless one calls in then i am then up for 24 hours most of the time) someone always has to be by cody due to the trach being his lifeline at this time. i'm a stay home mom, had to stop working after i was put on bedrest, My husband works mid-nights as a c/o at out county jail. ( thats where i seen a black GSD) i was in love and we had to find one.

i am lucky to maybe have 4  days covered by nursing but, its getting btter as time goes since dakota (cody) has been weaning off the vent now 3 hours morning and 3 hours afternoon. they say that he should be off the vent fully by the end of the summer.

So yes, we want to keep nala with us...  i am so grateful for everyone offing to help us.

getting a new puppy would not help us heal, Since cody only knows nala as his family, and best friend..

my personal email  beverly@dakota-cody.com

i am in tears at this time....... god bless you all
