Dave: Some dogs need to "learn" to eat RAW. They are so used to "cereal" or over processed canned, they aren't sure what to make of RAW. If you are interested in getting your dogs to eat RAW, I would suggest you lightly, lightly micro the beef just so the outside edges get that cooked odor (no bones if you do it this way). You won't have to do it for long, the dogs just have to re-learn it's actually food, then they love it!

True.

Another way to do that is to put just a touch of olive oil in a pan and sear the liver or whatever you're feeding lightly on each side.  Do not cook!  Just fast-sear for a bit more flavor for the dogs.  Remove.  Cool.  Feed.

After the first feeding I doubt you'll have any issues.

Thanks I'll try that. I have Canola oil I use in their food sometimes. It as healthy as the olive oil but not as expensive.

Hi guys, well its Jan 2 already. Its gone for another year.I enjoyed these holidays and now back to the same old grind. Thanks to all the responses but i am not sure that all know that I posted this question 3 years ago(Dec 28 05)Its no big deal cause i still have the same confusion now that i had then.I wish there was some concrete medical study in place for the raw diet so we could all know once and for all.Everytime i decide to do it ,some other info gets thrown in my face about how bad it is to feed raw and how many bad things happen cause of this diet.

I have tried both kibble and raw am just satisfied with a mostly raw diet for them (I do use kibble when I run out or lazy). The dogs are healthy, have not had a problem in years. You hose them down with water and they gleam. Teeth are white and clean. My dog who just died lived for two years on raw after being diagnosed with cancer and was so healthy up till his last moments (he looked about to drop when he was on the kibble diet). Just that difference on that one dog alone made me a firm believer in raw. I think you just need to use common sense when feeding raw. You don't just throw it down and leave the dog alone. You shouldn't really do this no matter what you feed. And you don't just buy like a whole bag of meatless bones and expect the dog to live on that. If your dog doesn't know how to eat raw, you have to take it slow if it means grinding everything up for a while. If anything, I am even more careful feeding kibble because I've had a dog choke on it, and I'm scared of bloat. Plus with the recent pet food scares...you never know what goes into the bag. Not that raw is any better if you don't know where the meat comes from but there are risks in both.
