 Mick9922,

V = Vorzüglich, a German term applied to dogs who meet a certain criteria according to the SV breed standard. In English, it means "excellent".

VA = Vorzüglich auslese, is also a German term applied to dogs who meet the criteria according to the SV standard and in English, it means "excellent select or elite", or the best of the best. In the German Sieger Show each year, about 8=12 males are awarded this conformation rating. It is NOT a title, nor is the V rating. Generally a lesser number of females are awarded a VA rating. In other countries, these same terms are used, for example, in the U. S. we have two Sieger Shows hosted by two different organizations (often with German judges).

KKL is the German abbreviation for Kor Klasse and is a breed worthiness rating awarded after a dog has met specific requirements prior to the event. There is a KKL1 and a KKL2 rating that can be awarded, assuming the dog passes the performance test and then stands for examination by the judge. There are specific criteria that must be met for a dog to be awarded KKL1 status. The rating is related to examining the dog for what is called a breed worthiness rank. Those given KKL1 status are recommended for breeding, those with a KKL2 status are approved for breeding. Unfortunately, there is a lot of corruption in the system and just because a dog passes this exam does not really mean that the dog is worthy of being bred in the opinion of many.

SchH = Schutzhund.....a dog sport consisting of three phases, tracking, obedience and what is called protection. Before a dog can compete in a trial for a SchH title, it must have passed a BH, or the begleithund examination (a test of basic obedience and temperament).

There are many other terms used. PM me with your private email address and I can send you a list of most titles and ratings and terms you would ever need. There are many sites on line too, but sometimes one has to hunt.
