Wise and the experienced,

I am importing a pup from Germany and already have Brokers contacting me to clear my pups 1st port of entry for a fee.  If I am not mistaking the 1st port of entry is free.  Anyone have any ideas?

Interested or not you need to get one.  Sometimes if you are lucky they will ship the dog to your airport but you will still have to clear it thru customs.  The problem is that they can keep the dog at the 1st port of entry and not release it.  Then your puppy will have to be boarded.  It will be better if you get a broker so that you can just go and pick up your puppy without any problems.

I have done this 3 years ago and did not have a problem clearing the puppy myself.   I am just curious if things have changed since than.

I appreciate your input..

i have imported 3.  2 from belgium, 1 from germany.  all flew out of frankfurt to detroit.  by the time they leave detroit and fly into mnpls, it is getting late and customs are calling it a day.  i had customs in mnpls contact detroit and clear the dog there.  by the time they get to mnpls everything is done and i can pick the dog up immediately.  see if you can do the same.  i have never used a broker and don't intend to.  customs will ask you if the dog is for you or for resale - so i would assume they would almost prefer to deal with owners if possible.  good luck with it.
