Why do customs make a big deal out of everything?  They gave me such a hard time trying to clear the pups.

Can't understand this paperwork, they have to be quarantined, they can not play with your dogs for 2 months, they can not leave the house or go anywhere or you will get fined or arrested.

Can't you answer this question? Just think about it. Do you think the purpose is only to cause you or someone else grief? There are good reasons for such rules and EVERY country has them and some countries and even some US states have regulations much more onerous than what you went through. It is one thing to hate the process, but there are very good reasons for import regulations. We should all be happy that they exist. As it is, the world has become much, much smaller of late. Too many exotic diseases, insects, species and other problems have been secretly imported (or hitched a ride without direct human assistance) into countries and serious problems have arisen from illegal entry.

That's exactly right, Hodie, just today my paper mentioned the decimation of our state's native bat population due to white nose fungus, that was somehow imported from Europe. They are calling for people to identify known bats, hoping the fungus stays in the bigger bat caves. We have enough problems with West Nile, another imported disease, and the mosquito numbers will increase with no bats to eat them. The green Ash trees are under assault from Asian borer beetles, as there is nothing here to stop them. It goes on and on.

Wow, do you all work for customs?  You all should..........

Yes, I do thing customs like to cause DRAMA and DIFFICULTY

All I am doing is venting about my experience with customs, do I know the real reasons?  I think I could figure that one out on my own.

No wonder why no one comes back to this board.  It is because of your arrogance and ignorance.

Well, if you are going to vent, then why don't you just tell us what happened? Sounds like it will be a good story.

When I imported my one girl as a puppy she too had to be "Quarantined" at home until 30 days after she had her rabies vacine.   Trying to remember back I think we could take her to the vet and that was about it.  Yes they questioned the paperwork as she had not yet been vacinated for rabies, though her breeder included the forms that showed her mother had.  Yes I had to sign forms about the quarantine, yes I received a follow up phone call (instead of a visit).  I didn't think it was that big of deal.  Well worth the trouble to have her as my girl.

In the big scheme of things, I think the Customs Agents have been very nice.  I just figure it's their job to ask questions and make sure things are done right.

LOL......yeah, right. Venting because you don't like the process is one thing. That is not what you did, nor how you asked the question. Why don't you tell us why it makes sense to keep pups who have not been vaccinated for rabies quarantined? Or why it makes sense that they not be around other dogs? What part of the paperwork did you not understand? Or was it again that you just did not like the restrictions? As for ignorance....??????

Hi There!
When my female came in from Germany, over a year ago, (30th of March 2009.)  I thought that I would have problems with Customs, as I had read the horror stories on this Database.  Customs were very nice, and had no problem with them. They looked/processed the paperwork, took about 10 mins,  and that was it. I just wanted to add, that I never received a follow up call from Customs about the pup being quarantined, and I was forwarned from my friends who have imported pups previously,  NOT to take the pup anywhere EXCEPT to the Vet for a check-up for a month.
I agree w/Animules.

Hodie,

3699 posts and still didn't learn a damn thing.  Go play with someone else.

I thank all those that shared their experiences.
