First off I would like to say that I know how you feel. I have a male that I am dealing with right now that has the same issues.  His underside was exactly like your dogs. I ended up haveing to put my GSD on an antibiotics because the itching got so bad that it turned into a staph infection.

From what you say, I feel, that what you are doing is way overkill on the flea preventative. I would stop doing to spray on flea killer and just stick with the topical (either Frontline or Advantage). Washing the bedding frequently like you are is good. That way any allergens will be removed. I would just make sure that the laundry soap you are using is a very mild one. As for the shampoo you are using, I am not sure what brand, I would try the one from Perfect Coat for dogs with allergies. It works really well. It is very mild and has no fragrances or dyes so it is very mild on the dogs skin. Here is what the shampoo looks like....  www.furlongspetsupply.com/hypoallergenic_dog_shampoo.aspx You can get it at most petstores. If you have a Tractor Supply Company near you they also carry it. That is where I get it.
I would also add some Wild Alaskan Salmon oil to your dogs food, as salmon oil will help with inflamation of the skin as well as adding oil to your dogs diet. You can get the salmon oil at any petstore also. I would just make sure it is Wild Alaskan Salmon oil....Just rememer that with dogs that have allergies, like yours does, sometime "less is more".

Hope this helps....feel free to PM me if you have any more questions.

Good luck. I hope you dog gets better soon. What Eukanuba are you feeding your dog? The German Shepherd one...Large breed adult...?? Again, just remember with dogs that have allergies LESS IS MORE....so do not try to many things at once. I would just make it simple. I know that the Salmon oil will help. Instead of bathing the dog with shampoo you can also rinse the dog off with luke warm water. If a dog has allergy problems you do NOT use hot water. Hot water will make the problem worse......so make sure that the water is just luke warm.

We have a rescue GSD who was siezed by the RSPCA  in June last year after her owner failed to get veterinary treatment for a flea Allergy. When she first arrived she had very little hair left and her skin was very inflamed with bleeding sores.
She was given Ceporex ( cephalexin broad spectrum cephalosparin antibiotic) Piriton antihistamine tablets. she was bathed  with seleen Shampoo for the first week daily then every other day for 2 weeks then twice a week for another 2 weeks. she was treated with stronghold spot on solution monthly and given salmon oil in her food daily. She was fed Royal Canine Sensitivity Control (Veterinary Diet) and boiled chicken. She is still being fed Sensitivity diet has salmon oil daily and stronghold monthly but is on no other medication now. Hope this is of some help and you get your boys skin problems resolved soon.

Good morning,I too have one of my males that is having this itching problem for a very long time.I have tried several different foods, mange treatment, ultra zd food etc with NO resolve. With my boy I know that certain foods affect him differently so I may have to resort to a homemade diet. What I would try in your case is a different food with NO GLUTENOUS grains such as sorghum, barley etc and also try a different protein source such as lamb or duck or for some dogs fish.It sounds like you have tried everything else so the food change would be worth while. Most of these breeders WONT take ANY responsibility. They dont care once thet have your money.Dont even waste your time with the breeder cause thats all it is a waste of time.I went through horror with another dog from a women breeder in Abottford BC Canada and ended up having to put the dog down at an early age and she could'nt give a shit. The only thing she was willing to talk about is how I voided the contract by putting the poor dog down. What I did was the best thing for that poor dog cause he only knew suffering and pain because of the bitch overbreeding BOTH parents.Anyway the only reason I give that example is to try and save you some heartache with your breeder.Try a food wwith 1 carb and 1 protein, something like the Natural Balance,or Simple Solutions or you could even try the Hills Ultra ZD but its expensive and your dog may lose weight.PLEASE,NEVERMIND what the breeder has told you and CHANGE THE FOOD.What have you got to lose by trying something other than chicken.Just remember that it could take a while for it to come out of his system and DONT give ANYTHING other than his food when you change or it will mess up the results.Feed the new food and only that and see if the itching subsides.Hope this helps and please dont heaitate to pm me if you need anymore help.

I, too, am going through the exact same thing with my female.  Our routines sound so similiar!  She's been on Cephalexin and responds well to it for the moist dermatitis.  After she's off of the antibiotics for a month or so - the cycle starts again.  So frustrating.  We were at the dermatologist's office yesterday and she was positive for a bacterial and yeast infection.  Her groin was red, splotchy and she had the bumps throughout and on her shoulder area as well.

As much as I hate to do it - it may come down to putting her on a maintenence schedule of antibiotics.  She's on weekly allergy and staph injections - I can only imagine what she'd look like.  I also give her weekly or bi-monthly medicated baths.  I am going to start taking her the dermatologist weekly for a medicated dyp - just to rule out this option as a last resort because we've pretty much tried everything else.  I feel like my life revolves around these stupid allergies and I hate it for her.

She's on Frontline Plus but am thinking of switching to another type of flea control.  She had a bad reaction to Promeris so I'm really hesitant to incorporate anything different into the routine.

Linda B - that is an amazing transformation!!!!  Your rescue girl looks beautiful

Me too has a dog with allergies. Vomzellmer, from your description I dont think it is a flea allergy but more likely a food allergy. Those red spots (dime size) in the groin areas are secondary infections mostly due to licking. Same for the hot spots which more occur on the croup area. You will also see tiny little red spots over the body. With a flea allergy the dog is getting more large whelps over the entire body with swelling in the face as well.

My boy displayed the same symptoms you described since he was a pup. It got much worse after he ws neutered at 2 years old. Was at the Vet every 3 weeks if not more often and spend several thousands $$ in treatment and special diet foods. He was driving on RC Venison /Potatoe prescription diet untill they changed something (I noted the kibble looking different). I tried home cooking as well but did not have a true success with that. Tired of giving the Vet my money I tried a lot of the allergy foods avaiable from the stores as well as the new upcoming grain less ones. One finally worked in regards to the allergies and having firm poops: Wellness Core Fish. It is pretty expensive, but I trust the quality and it works. One bag lasts me one month, dont have to feed much. Heve been feeding it for the last 2 years and been to the Vet only for the yearly health checks.

This early spring he started to itch again, and I was devestated until I found that it occured as our large oak tree was in bloom. Now that the bloom is over he has gotten better again and still feeding the same food. So added the Oak to the list of his allergies (Chicken, grains, oats, rice, chicken fat, sweet potatoes, processors/preservatives).

For bathing I use "Vetrinary Formula Sensitive Skin Treatment &Shampoo with Tea Tree Oil" from Petsmart, for the occational hotspot I use "Itch relief Hotspot Spray with Tea Tree Oil" . I also use intermittenly Selsun Blue Max Strength Human Shampoo. However, I learnt that it is better not to use any kind of conditioner but rinsing very troughout with cool water.

Give the Wellness Core Fish a try, feed it for at least 8 weeks with no other snacks and see if the itching improves. What you have to loose?
