Dog 1 it's really stupid of YOU to call me a dumba$$ when your definition of dumba$$ is someone who doesn't check out the facts. 1. i research this for some years 2. you know nothing of the facts of the situation or of me. take a lesson in refinement and compassion.

Hi Blitzen i researched GSD websites for a few years [obviously not continuously] and based my decision to buy from Wayne Curry on his warranties as an "expert". I had spoken to other trainers. i liked him and his dog. You know, in our society we have experts: the non-experts rely upon the experts' opinions. when you get sick, you don't go to medical school, you go to your doctor, who has gone to medical school. I made a horrible mistake in trusting WC. I also have clients, and am extremely responsible and diligent about giving them the best advice from which they will profit and not suffer. Thank you, Blitzen, for sounding so reasonable and compassionate. Diana

D.H. Thank you for your support. I am new to this website and in reading the responses to my email am now aware that there are some tough, heartless cookies out there. that's life! I am a big animal lover; wanted my heart's desire, a GSD; and went into the marketplace to buy one. I didn't get a fair deal, and that's what the marketplace is all about. I must take responsibility for my part.I did research GSD's for a long time before i made the decision to buy. I have a degree in Chemisty/biology and am CFP, i'm not an idiot; but i have no experience and that is what killed my cat; my own ignorance and dependence upon a guy who wanted a quick, easy buck. I do feel much like an idiot after my cat dying!!

Oh Diana, please don't feel that way. Animals are unpredictable at times and even pets that have lived together for a long time may have an off moment that ends in disaster for one or the other. It can happen, and every sensible breeder knows that, but also tells their prospective buyers. Newcomers to a household can always disrupt the routine everyone is so used to. We usually are not aware of that routine until something causes a shift of some sort. In the excitement of getting a new dog we often forget that our animals live by their own rules in additon to ours. Has nothing to do with IQ, or how much digging you did before. The day the new dog arrives a lot of common sense goes out the window with a lot of people. It is an exciting time and your mind does not think in terms that something could happen. This was just one of those unfortunate incidents that life throws at us every once in a while.

Blitzen - so much for people being better off buying from US breeders, yes? Its all relative. Keep this post in mind next time you think in terms of black and white. There are good and not so good examples everywhere.

Other people's Dumbass problems serve to teach others and prevent them from falling into the same pitfalls. Admit it or not, we were all dumbasses at one point in our lives. Some of us still are and just don't realize it. The "countless" number of people that read this board and don't ask questions(for fear of being called a dumbass) still learn by reading the posts here. Give the poster a break, she has suffered enough. Stephen

Diana7788, Can you please answer to my questions. My quoted questions from my above posts are “If you don't mind me asking, why did you go to Kraftwerk kennel to buy a dog and what was the purpose? For the sport or for a pet?”

by DanielF. on 14 May 2006 - 18:05

One thing I still don't have clear in my mind Diana. How did you introduce them, if you did, and how long have you had the dog before it killed your cat? Sorry for your loss but I agree with the majority saying that you can't blame Kraftwerk? If you are going to buy a car you don't just buy it when the car slaesman says it runs when you've only seen it parked at the lot, you give it a test run. (I hope that made since)

DH, the main reason I think that it's best for the average person to not buy an import is simply because the Germans offer no guarantees and most say that one can never buy the best dog from Germany.

by Blitzen on 14 May 2006 - 20:05

Diana, I have been "in dogs" since 1969. Still my 2 GSD's have not been smart buys. I was sure I asked all the right questions, even bought my first from an AKC judge, a person who I had known for over 20 years and considered ethical and honest as well as a good personal friend. He was none of the above. Next I went to a breeder with imports, some many on this board know. The dogs were titled, had their breed surveys, "a" stamps, V rated, all the bells and whistles. I won't do into details about these dogs; it's enough to say the first only lived to be 7 1/2 years old and had few healthy days, the second is not trustworthy with people inspite of intensive socializing and professional consulting. Almost everyone makes mistakes when it comes to finding a good GSD, even those in the breed for many years do not always end up with what they are promised. Most say buying a puppy is a crap shoot. IMO buying a GSD of any age sight unseen is a crap shoot. If I were looking for a titled dog, I would never buy one without being able to see it for myself or to get the opinion of one of the few breeders I've come to trust over the years. Otherwise, you are probably going to get taken. I really hope you find the dog of your dreams. I will never go back to my original breed, the GSD is the only dog for me. I just hope my next one lives a long healthy live and doesn't become a liability. I am counting on some very honest people to help me find that dog and would be most happy to PM you with their names if you'd like. My email is blitzengsd@adelphia.net
