The same principle applies to children. Whenever you get a new dog always proceed with caution until you are totally assured the dog is trustworthy. That includes how the dog responds to hearing your child scream and run!

Diana, let me start by apologising, even though I still believe that you are still in your own way at fault for what happened, I do believe that Kraftwerk is responsible also becuase they told you to let them fight. That is in no way correct to do. Kraftwerk is at fault here and they should have been more responsible to let you know that trouble could start with the two. Nobody can tell (not even Kraftwerk or you). So sorry. There is no need to start "fights" over the internet nor is it mature. I don't know what kind of dog you want. Please, I still believe you could have used more common sense, that could have saved your cats life. Daniel

This conversations should be put to rest. Kraftwerk is indeed responsible for the "instructions" she recieved in introducing her dog and cat. I don't blame her for observing the instructions she got from this kennel. After all, isn't a well known breeder and trainer supposed to know what they are talking about? On the other hand, most dogs give chase if a cat runs, even dogs with no real cat issue. This was a very cruel way for anyone to learn that cats aren't always safe even with dogs that are supposed to be 'safe' with cats. I hope Kraftwerk also learns a lesson in this: never assure a client that the dog they are buying will be good with their cat.

Amen, the horse has died.

I'm still missing the part of the story about why the dog was $10K-$12K. Sorry, Jack

The dog cost $12000 because WC loves the cheese. He will charge whatever he thinks he can get away with. And people pay apparently.

Diana, Molly is absolutely right. But you spent a longtime and lots of research and spent $12K for a GSD, right? Is he trained for personal protection, schutzhund titles, or what. What were you going to do with him? I'm not trying to be a smart ass. I am curious why you paid $12K for a dog in the first place. It is too bad about your cat. I have an 11 year old cat who is not afraid of my GSD so he doesn't run. For 12 grand, the dog should have been able to change the litter box for your cat. Sorry about your tragedy and loosing $3K. This whole thing sounds very strange. Regards, Jack

I think that a lot of you are total missing the point of Diana. It is not that she did not know any better, the whole point is the kennel selling her the dog gave her some bad advise which that same advise took the life of her cat. Dogs and Cats have not gotten along since the age of time, the same as a cat will catch a bird. If you are in the selling of high drive working dogs the kennel/breeder needs to know their own dogs and give the correct adise or they will have to be resposibile for the bad advise they give. If Kraftwork told her that the dog would hurt or kill the cat the out come would have been different, She may have not bought the dog and that is what they did not want. Dealing with a well known and wealthy kennel you have to ask yourself how did they get the way they are, some people will tell you what you want to hear just to sell a dog. Is the dog business about the love of the dog or the love of the money. Diana has a case with Kraftwork because of the advise they gave her. They need to be held accoutable for her lose and be a little more careful the advise they give people they sell dogs to. I am also a kennel /breeder owner and I would never tell a buyer to let a cat and dog get together, I also have a female that will kill our cat if she gets it so when we train her the cat goes into a crate. And for those of you who say you need to introduce the cat and dog that is CRAP! That dog will chase that cat maybe not today but one day that dog will get that cat. My dogs also chase rabbits, birds and frogs do I introduce all of those animals hoping the will all get along.. **Diana you have nothing to concern yourself about this was in no way your fault, you put your trust and the life of your cat in someone eles hands, and they need to pay for that... OH! The price of the dog is no ones business but Diana's, what does the price matter? If it was cheaper or cost more money would her cat still be here??????

Jack , She was a beginner and got taken by a car salesmen. It has been beaten to death in here. She has responsibility for not doing enough homework but WC mislead her and ripped her off because he didnt stand by his word that he wouldnt charge her the restocking fee if it didnt work out. There are people who pay way more than $12k for GSD's. Google a bit and see.
