Liesjers

He is handsome, love the head and expression, but he is almost TOO "showline" for me.  IMO the working lines don't need to look just like show lines to have excellent structure.  We criticize the show lines for their arbitrary structure but then put working lines on a pedestal when they follow the same type?

"Perhaps I was trying to be hopeful and not try to catergorise this particular dog as this line or that line but just as a very well bred "GSD line".

I agree with the statement made above by A and A, the formidable showline trio of  Canto, Quanto and Mutz are all there, among other's, in this dog's background, too.

Those dogs are in LOTS of working line dogs pedigrees....indeed, that were during or prior to the split, so I would not classify them as "showlines" per se. But thanks for clarifying, AandA. I see what you meant now.

Well, heck, Jenn, if they aren't considered "showlines" then I got one heck of a WL dog.....!!!!!!!    Now I am really, really confused.............

Some like to use the word "split"...for obvious reasons. Others can see the 'turning point' and the dog that arguably steered the breed into a new direction was:

Interesting to see the who's who in his pedigree and who came after him fo GENERATIONS.

Beetree...what's confusing? Back that far, those dogs (Bernd, et al) were just GSD

My male goes back to many of those same dogs...is he not a working line dog?

So, if the lines where maintained, they became the current "showline" backbone, and if they were not maintained, they became the current "workingline"? Is that how it is?
