I would try Montana GSD rescue;  Stepanie will find a nice dog for this family and can use the support and the dogs come from all areas of the US.  Best of luck  Nan

Don't take the heat Newbie, Moons is just being Moons.  He's the resident curmudgeon, but some love him anyway...

I agree and good Idea.  I know the support could help her. I have offered, privatly,  my own artwork to her for free in past for sale proceeds for her rescue. I guess I just from experience mark rescues in other parts of the country off my mental list because most prefer to be near enough the adopter to keep tabs on the dog. I had also thought of the one for mid atlantic states, but they had that rule about not adopting to a state they do not have a representaive living in so I did not look at gsd rescues out of state after that knowledge. I do free web and logo art for rescues all the time and keep forgetting they do all have different rules for distance adoption.

Didnt know if moons is in the group trying to make trouble online for me and it was spilling over. Sorry if I was being touchy and accusing them of being part of that group if it is not so.  Aparently they are displeased I am not online and they have been having no reaction from me so attempts have been made to get me to come argue with them or set them straight and I continue to ignore it. Some people need to back away from the mojitoes and get a life offline :)

I will be out to this ladie's farm today and will get further info on the cost she is willing to go to and as well as travel distance.

Stephanie what is your rescue website so we can read through your criteria and view the dogs please?

Hey Newbie,
This is the website, however, I do think that is way too far away, especially in the winter months to ship a dog. I like to keep track of my dogs too and I do have strict requirements especially with "farm dogs", most people let them run loose unsupervised and they end up chasing livestock and getting shot. I do require a fenced yard, I used to make exceptions, till I almost lost a dog, adopted through another agency, due to no fenced yard.
If you want have her fill out an application online, I will review it.
Maybe you can check out the local humane societies, they often get lots of GSD's in. There are alot of GSD's down in your neck of the woods...
Thanks, Steph

The local groups do not have any that is why I resorted to posting about it here. I will not even help my family members get dogs because I don't consider them good enough dog owners :)  I would not go to bat finding this lady one if I was not sure the dog would have a good safe life,  I respect your rules. Thank you for responding with the information.

Her yard is fenced. Her one lab is older he lives indoors and sleeps on her bed. Her dog that passed waswell cared for and treated for cancer but lost the battle. Her kids have moved out and she has always wanted a gsd and decided this was a good time in life to do so.

Might as well just keep them all, Steph. I know I wouldn't qualify for one with those requirements. What GSD worth anything can't jump a fence anyway? Not to derail, but this is precisely why so many people just don't bother dealing with rescues. The dogs might be ok, but the rules are ridiculous.

I just bought a Chihuahua, very well-bred (but it's still a Chihuahua, lol) after contacting a few rescues. I decided I'd rather shell out a grand on a healthy dog w/a known background than deal with those loonies and their rules for trying to obtain what is likely a poorly bred pet w/issues and an unknown background.

I would venture to say 75% of people on this board, responsible working dog owners many of them, wouldn't pass your application.

I know you mean well Steph and you do a lot of great work, but steadfast rules are not the best way to place dogs. And yes, I fostered for several years and was responsible for evaluating and adopting out Pit Bulls for a local shelter. Some of the best people didn't look so great on paper, but none looked as bad as I do on one of those applications, lol.
