Travels brings up an excellent point. EGO has much to do with these discussions. If having a big mean dog who even attacks you, his master, makes you feel better, bigger, stronger, whatever....then by all means, enjoy.

But don't assume that anyone who disagrees with you has inferior experience, dogs, handling skills, etc. Over the internet, you simply DON'T KNOW.

Jenni?  Huh?  Isn't that what you and SSG were doing to felloffher?  Judging his dog by a few words, -unless of course you have met his dog in person?

Ego is right, who's is the question.

Try re-reading, RS. There we go again w/that reading stuff. I said nothing directly to Felloffher about his dog; I was asking him about his idea of weakening the bond- until his whole post addressing me personally. Double-check;-)  SSG did say that Felloffher's dog didn't sound like solid temperament. To which I agree, but I didn't say a word until Felloffher, in true manly fashion asserted that I must not have experienced a dog as tough as his. LOL

Like I said...I have a dog like that. Yeah Im going off a few words on the internet. So???? That is where we are at and that is what we are doing. From what was said that is my opinion. The dog I have can be worked in certain parameters. Get him out of those parameters and you are going to have a problem. So he can be a nice working dog in a limited capacity but he does not have a solid temperament. Dominant asshole is what he is. I have been through it with this dog and now neither of us really want to get into it with the other. That is not the tentative relationship I think one should have with their dog but to each his own I guess. I will even go so far as to say I kinda like this dog but still say his temperament is not sound.

With all due respect,  I am not in the habit of speaking up for others, however, I don't think Felloffer was "asserting" anything, he was simply making an assumption and probably could have worded it  in a better  way.

SSG was making veiled and goading comments.

One thing is sure, My Dog is not the boss of me, In fact i know of no one living who has been the boss of me animal or human, I tolerate no shit from no one or anything, The fact is the Dog does not like being groomed
At first i gave her corrections which normally would take the head off a dog but to no avail she took them and came back the same. Tying her short made no difference even with my brother Brushing her and being tied and me holding onto her she still was not having it, She struggled and turned herself inside out to get at the Brush BUT she made no sound
NOW i could have knocked her out i guess then groomed her, and that would have been an easy thing to do but i chose not too, You can beat a Dog to make it do as you want, but not being groomed does not warrant that
In every other thing she is foot perfect  so this is no big deal to me and i put it down to her being a bit quirky, However some are making  more of it than needed with there superior attitudes.

Sporty, Jenni and some others
How long have you kept dogs and  been in the ScH sport that i would be interested to know

steve, I was just saying I think you "should" be able to groom your own dog when you want to....which is my opinion, everyone has one.  From the looks of your dog in the picture she doesn't need grooming or brushing. She's a great looking dog, and you seem to be doing well with your accomplishments so far as well.

Felloffher said, "He has to be muzzled or I will get bit. Overall his temperament is solid, he just doesn't like anyone touching his feet.

I find it amusing when some say it's a training issue and leadership must be asserted. Comments like this show a real lack of understanding when dealing with dogs. Coming down on a dog for things like this weaken the bond between handler and dog. "

I responded to that comment saying that does not sound like a dog with a solid temperament.

If we cannot express our opinions here then what is the point? Veiled and goading commments?? LOL

Im just calling it like I see it.

Steve1, A more pressing question would be how could you not know more about dogs after 60 years!?

IF your dog is trying to bite you then either.                    1. You are hurting it or                       2. Your dog does not respect you enough to allow it.

Its that simple people.

Clearly, we (SSG, Keith, myself, et al) are all misinformed and inexperienced if we possess the silly notion that a truly strong dog w/solid temperament can be effectively controlled for grooming.

I do love this forum!

Edit..nevermind. SSG beat me to the punch.
