I use Solid Gold as my main Kibble - the Wolf King/Cub type. My dogs have done really well on it - the only thing bad I can say about it is the *smell* on the way out. I also supplement with a home-made raw when I can find the right kind of meat I am looking for - which hasnt been a whole lot recently - I usually will grind it up as soon as I get it...seperate, then freeze. but the Solid Gold has been doing real wel for me - both my dogs have been raised on it - and my next pup will be too. ~Cate

I switched from Canidae to Royal Canin #24 very happy with the results, coats look great, stool is hard, and less stool to clean up. The only negative is it is 40 bucks for a 35# bag.

I use kibble or raw depending on the day. I like Orijen, and will use this most of the time, but I have nothing against using EVO or so on...I generally use alternative meats, like the fish Orijen or the red meat EVO, because I feed chicken already for raw. Timberwolf is also ok but way too expensive right now. I haven't had good results with Canidae, it gave my boy itchy skin and really smelly poop. Too bad cause the price is awesome.

Chinito: if you are interested send me an email to luvjakers@yahoo.com and I will send you an attachment of a list of some of the best dry foods and their ingredients and why they are better than most! Eukanuba is also crap as far as I am concerned, corn is their third ingredient, but I guess it just depends on what you want to feed your dog. It is better than most of the commercial brands, but I still won't feed it. Royal Canin is awesome! Evo, Solid Gold, there are plenty of great foods out there, no need to feed the junk. But as far as raw food there is a company called k-9 kraving www.k-9kraving.com and I have been feeding this with great results. My dogs love it, it's a bit expensive, but a great food. There is not guess work as to what organ meat the dog needs etc. It's all in there. Good luck, if you want the attachment send me an email! ~Kari

Royal Canin GSD Maxi 24 works best for us. Our dogs are able to digest it very well, coats look great. We've tried most of the super premiums (Canidae, Wellness, Nature's Variety, Timberwolf, etc.) but have settled on Royal Canin. I really like the ingredients in Innova foods, and especially Evo, but for some reason it made our dogs gassy all the time.

RAW exclusively for over 20 years now. I got fed-up with constant vet visits for yeasty ears, various skin/coat conditions, and any number of health issues while feeding even what was considered "premium" kibble. Pancreatitis generally (at least then) resulted from people who were looking for the cheap way out and buying "trim" from their local butcher - cheap. Result - mostly fat trimmings. That's what they'd feed. That "screams" pancreatitis. Since switching to raw I have few health issues, fewer vet trips and with my last dog, the last 6 years of his life, our vet visits were limited to baseline bloodwork and bi-annual stool to check for parasites only. (No issues ever.) His teeth were that of a two-year-old, his ears, skin, coat, weight, bowel and urine output were all optimal. No dysplasia, but he did slow down a bit by his 10th year. My vet addressed me when he entered the room on more than one occassion welcoming me as "It's the woman who's trying to kill her dog again." Yet he could never argue with the results. I have a new vet with my new pup. I have to chuckle a bit when I see people talking about hormones, steroids, etc. in the human grade foods. I feed human grade. I eat human grade. To those I ask...what, exactly, do you think is contained in the "by products" and foodsources used to produce kibble? I guarantee none of that is "organic", either. There's no such thing as a "good" kibble in my book. It's tantamount to feeding your family junk food at each meal.

We feed primarily National Dog Food....(Performance/Competition Blend). Puppies are weaned on Raw K-9 Kravings and Royal Canin Baby Dog.....then at 4months...raw meat and National Puppy food, until almost 12mos old. LOVE NATIONAL DOG FOOD! We have the absolute best overall results on this food. Lower feeding amounts, less stool, SUPER coat condition, beautiful mass & muscle tone! I have also heard very good results in regards to several of the other foods..... ie...Eagle Pac, Royal Canin, Wellness, Innova, and of course...RAW. Good Luck!

I fed my dog Avoderm for a while. They seemed to do good on it but my Czech female and my DDR female lost TOO much weight on it. Their coats looked ok, but they turned into a rack of bones. I have switched to Natural Choice Large Breed lamb and rice and couldnt be happier with the results. My dogs have good firm stools, their coats are shinny and the skin isnt dry. My showline male is known to get dry itchy skin so I have to be careful what I feed him. So far he is doing great, as well as the other 3 dogs. I have tried ALOT of different brands...Avoderm, Iams, Eukanuba, Pro Plan, Solid Gold, Natural Balance and also the Kirkland(costco food) lamb and rice. The only suppliment that my dogs get is 2 fish oil tablets in the morning, for the omega 3 faty acid. So far this is working for me.

I am probably going to try the "Chicken Soup" foods. I like the way Molly's dogs are doing on it and I think its within my budget. The ingredients look pretty good for a balanced diet. She is also feeding some dry product that she rehydrates I can't remember the name of, pretty pricey, but I might like to try on a couple of dogs as well. SS
