This weekend (25th & 26th) the Joplin Missouri Humane Society and the ASPC is holding a huge adoption event in effort to find homes for the many, many dogs & cats still unclaimed from the May tornado that struck the city.  Adoptions fee are being waived, animals will be altered, microchipped and vaccinated-I have not found a list of just what will be available, but have seen videos of several nice shepherds either being transported or pictured crated at the facilities.  They plan on involving various rescues to take what animals that do not get adopted this weekend-there will be information & applications available on the JMHS website.

I visited the temporary shelter a week or so after the tornado hit.  There were very nice sweet dogs and cats there.  It was so sad to see them because you knew at one time they had owners.  The ASPCA and the Joplin animal shelter at that time had reunited over 150 pets with their owners.  There were many volunteers helping with the rescue efforts.  I commend them for a job well done.  They took care of all the animals and did it day in and day out and gave the animals the love they missed.  I hope they all can get adopted and go to good homes!!!!!!
