I'm curious what everyone's vet requires before doing x-rays for H&E...I'm not talking paperwork....health checks, bloodwork, heartworm check, exam...ect.  I have had GSD's x-rayed for H&E for years.......shocked at what a vet required today of me to prelimb my 14 month old female......needless to say I'm going elsewhere........thanks in advance!

Nothing. They do have you sign a paper if you opt to not do blood work though.....

Nothing?  What would they need to do in addition to doing the x-rays?

This vet wanted to charge for an exam, heartworm check (she is on htwrm) before x-raying.....the receptionist had given me a price of 125.00 for H/E...never mentioned any additional testing.......she had her heartworm test in April at my Country vet...he does not do OFA x-rays or I would never have gone to this clinic......the total would have been 185.00.  With the economy I'm surprised they would "chase" away business! I personally don't feel the additional health checks were necessay..(on a 14 month old dog)...I have had H/E x-rays preformed over the last 25 yrs..this was a first.....needless to say I took my "girl" and left.....will schedule with another vet that I use....all I do is drop off early am and pick up when they are finished...no extra testing or exam fee. Price 155.00.....not bad and he is an orthopedic vet to boot!

Thanks for letting me vent......  : )

My vet requires nothing. What did the vet tell you that was needed?

by GSDloyalty on 29 July 2011 - 01:07

There are quite a few vets that want MONEY MONEY MONEY!!

by 1GSD1 on 29 July 2011 - 01:07

WELL, my vet charges over $400 for just hips. Needless to say he'll soon find out I can get 2 dogs done, hips and elbows for that price. I am dead serious about his charges.

400.00 is high just for hips.

1GSD1....I have friends in NY that have paid close to 400.00 for H/E .....way too high......I don't mind paying for what I get..but....for what the dog does NOT need.....No way....I won't be surprised when this clinic closes........
