Hi Dawn,

I like to start weaning with goat milk at about 3 weeks-easy for them to tolerate and gets them used to drinking/eating from a pan. Very shortly afterward they are ready for something more substantial. I have used kibble saturated with goat milk-more milk than kibble to start and them increasing the kibble to milk ratio as they age.

My current teckel litter I started with goat milk and them feed them a watered version of the meatloaf I give the adults (chopped meat, brown rice, cooked diced vegeables, eggs and kelp). The bitch has access to them as well so they are still nursing.

Here they are at almost 4weeks having eaten to capacity.

Whatever mom is eating, liquified in a food processor, with goat's milk.

StephanieJ,

Those pups are so beautiful and so big for 4 weeks age, adorable in the picture with full stomach and they seem content with that. What breed are they? they all look the same to me.

When I wean pups I start them off with a real goats milky gruel made with goats milk and gerber's baby cereal--either rice or oats. After a couple of days when I see they are getting it then I cut down the milk some and make it thicker. A couple of more days and I add frozen Bil Jac real smushed up with a fork. Then after a few days I start feeding soaked puppy food with a little bil jac and as they grow I add less bil jac and less milk until they are munch good on just the dry.

Hi Ibrahim,

Longhaired miniature dachshunds-kaninchen teckel (rabbit dog).

Here they are seven weeks with their mother and a half sister.
