I found this book to be helpful dealing with the loss of a pet.  I hope others will also.

Ya know, I lost my one year old male, King, two years ago this month. ...The holiday season continues to be a reminder of the deep and terrible grief I felt by his untimely death... Even now that book might do me some good..:)  Thanks for the link animules..

I will have to check out the book, thanks animules.  I also remember what my Oma told me about dogs and I have posted it in the past:

Dogs are guardian angels sent by God to live among us to learn about us.  The reason their lives are so short is because they are born knowing what it takes us a life time to learn.  When they have learned what God sent them to learn, He calls them home to begin their duties as guardian angels.  They die with their eyes wide open in anticipation of seeing God and the glories of heaven again.  If you want to know how God looks at you, gaze into the eyes of your dog.

This helped me when Loki passed (he will make an incredible guardian angel) and I remember telling my son this when our first dog, Nikki died.  We had her in the garage under a sheet because we hadn't had a chance to bury her yet and my son wanted to see her body.  We uncovered her and my son started laughing.  Since we had expected crying, we were startled so we asked him what he was laughing about.  In that wonderful honesty of children, he said, "I was laughing because Nikki is going to look funny with white angel wings", she was a black Chow.

Have you read "The Art of Racing in the Rain"?

For a change, I agree with Blitzen. Best book I've ever read. It is a philosophy of life--has noting to do with dogs but plenty to do with the "zebras" within all of us
