How many people a year purchase protection dog? Wanting to know but can't find the statistic

Define 'protection dog'? Are you refering specifically to a dog that's trained in personal or property protection? After all, probably 90% of pet owners would cite 'protection' as one of the reasons they have dogs, but they are necessarily thinking of it in the same capacity as you may be....
Not sure if anyone has tabulated any stats for either frame of reference, though...
