If you see this movie, you will be supporting animal cruelty.

Four wild wolves were trapped for use in this movie. Two were killed and eaten. One of the actors actually talked about this during a talk show interview.

One of the on-screen killings in the film possibly showed a third wolf being killed and beheaded. Of course, the company that made the movie refused to verify this.

The makers of the movie completely ignored all advice those knowledgeable about wolves tried to give them about how to portray wolf behaviour. During the course of the film, most of the members of the cast are killed by wolves. (Too bad this wasn't real life: it sounds like they deserved it!)  In the real world, attacks by wild wolves on humans just don't happen.

The film (and these are MY observations) depicts very poor survival skills. I can't image workers in the north wouldn't know that if you're in a plane crash, your best bet is to STAY WITH THE DOWNED PLANE, as the plane's emergency beacon will summon help.  Instead, they go trekking cross country in the dead of winter, falling off cliffs and into raging rivers, and of course, being attacked by wolves.

Of course, this portrayal of wolves as ravenous beasts comes at a time when their survival in the wild is again being threatened, as the government considers removing them from the protected species list. See the other thread on this forum about the wolf hunt in Minnesota!  http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/german_shepherd_dog/bulletins.read?mnr=529563

Definitely will not go to see it. This whole thing is absolutely infuriating. Thank you for the heads up on this.

It all looked like a pile of BS hype from the previews. I need to get out and see "War Horse". Is it good, anyone??

War Horse is a good movie.  Not great, but good.  I liked the book better, but I almost always prefer the book over the movie.  The hubby want's to go see The Grey next weekend.  Maybe now If I tell him this info I can talk him into something else.

Thanks for the info - I seldom go to the movie theater but anything "canine" kind grabs my attention.  Certainly on my DO NOT ever watch list now.

Does anyone check these facts out before posting?

I'm just curious; I don't know much about this movie, but I specifically remember hearing that there was controversy because 4 wolf CARCASSES were PURCHASED from trappers to use in the movie...meaning...they were already trapped and killed, not trapped and then killed just for the movie.

IDK - but it still irks me - Here in MN they just lifted the ban on killing wolves - I don't own livestock but live in a rural area they scare me but I don't wan them killed.....

The wolves were trapped specifically for the movie, then used in the filming. That's what I understood from reading the Wolf Watch website.

Of course, getting the truth from the filmakers was probably very difficult. They were doing their best to avoid bad publicity.

Their publicity agent was so clueless about wolves that she asked Wolf Watch if they could get her a live wolf for the film's premiere. She specifically asked for Journey, a wolf who travelled hundreds of miles into California in search of a mate.

What part of WILD does this lady not understand??

I looked it up and it said they BOUGHT 4 carcasses from trappers. I wish I could remember now where I found it...
