OK, I have dial up, and didn't see the video, but read the comments. More agree than disagree, to which my daughter says is scary, very scary. LOL
My daughter who is 24 (and a mom) did watch it and this is what she said.
(loosely quoted):
He sits in the lawn chair with a cigarette in his hand (good parenting?) and basically does what she does - whines about her(do two wrongs make a right?). She is young, what is his excuse?
She didn't just turn 15 and wake up one morning a troubled daughter. That took years.
The gun and shooting the laptop is another thing, and his saying she'd have to pay him back for the bullets
when he hasn't given her a cent in her life for her chores? What exactly is that teaching her? Could he have not donated her lap top to a needy child? He paid for it with his money after all.
There are better ways to show her. Obviously the communication between the two is very poor, and he should be sitting down and talking to her, LIKE AN ADULT.
The family is split, she lives with him and his new wife. That is tough, and all the material things in the world are not going to make up for that.
He's complaining about her work ethic yet that is taught from day one, mostly through example. My daughter feels like his daughter feels she is not being heard which is why she went on to face book in the first place.
Obviously mistakes were made in parenting, BIG time.
Paying her a small amount for the chores will teach her the value of money. How is she supposed to learn it otherwise? Being paid something will make her want to get a job and really appreciate what she buys with her own money and give her a sense of accomplishment.
The father admitted everything in the letter she wrote is TRUE.... so??
If this is considered good parenting then this world is in big trouble.

OK, having been a parent, and a child, I have to agree from what she told me of the video. I did many chores growing up, but was always paid an allowance, or given a calf to sell, something. That is how my dad taught me the value of money.
I know how to work, and work hard. My parents always practiced what they preached. They were always honest, didn't smoke, didn't drink, didn't curse, so if we did any of the aforementioned, they were totally in their right to crack down on us in their home.
Maybe todays kids are spoiled and screwed up.... but.... seems to me, so are the parents.
Broken families is the biggest issue, absent parents is the second, immature parents is the third.
I can see why my kids are like they are, faults and all, .... mostly it all comes back to our parenting mistakes. We can blame it on their friends, but fact is, we have the most clout.
All parents make mistakes, unfortunately most of them don't show up until the kids are teenagers and it's almost too late, at least they are much harder to fix, ( not impossible though), but some parents definitely make more and bigger mistakes than other parents.
I thought I'd post, as this seems to be the only dissenting view!

RedS, it sounds like your daughter left out the best part! The letter the pissed off daughter posted on her Facebook wall, and thought she could get away with by blocking her dad. (Who by the way left home at 15, worked and put himself through to college.)
He'd also spent half a day and $130 bucks upgrading her laptop, and her ungratefulness, sense of entiltlement and disrespect was... LOL, priceless!
I still can't stop laughing about this, so sorry you have dial-up, I don't know how you can stand it!

As I said above....an angry parent discharging a firearm is not a good example of parenting, but that's also kinda what makes it so funny.....it's funny in an OMG kind of way!!! Not saying he's the best Dad or anything. I can remember that very sense of entitlement my daughter threw at me, & how incredibly angry it made me.....& my daughter, now an adult, is & was a good kid, & is raising a couple of very good kids.
But there are times in parenthood that you really don't know how you can keep your head from exploding....& watching this guys head go KER-PLOOEY!!! ..well it's freakin' priceless! Glad I managed to keep mine from blowing off.....but for all the times I locked myself in the bathroom & screamed into a towel & wept in frustration at the incredible obliviousness of a teen-ager....I reserve the right to laugh at this poor dude. Ya' know it's only gonna get worse for him.....
