Clemmons had to stop the DM testing and his research because UF wasn't funding it any longer. They have gone thru a very substantial downsizing at the Vet. school and many other programs have been halted due to lack of funding and/or personnel to run the test(s). It's really a shame- he is EXTREMELY knowledgeable about the disease and it's progression. Keep in mind it is not just our breed but does occur most breeds,so every one lost out on this one. Ah, the world of academia- they can spends the GMP of  small country on football, but not fund research...things that make you go hmmmm....

by beetree on 18 April 2012 - 21:04

Flygirl, how much research funding with academia are you familitar with, to make such an outlandish statement? I'll bet none.

BeeTree- you have an appropriate name for yourself.

I had to put Missie T to sleep today, and I have yet to forgive myself for taking time away from her for the likes of trying to educate YOU. , For if you know so much about fundraising and care about DM, why didnt you offer to do something, instead of just sitting there crowing, telling everyone how much you know? Perhaps you are a hypocrite. I shall not let the likes of you inflict yourself upon me again and I wont subject myself to this board, where the worl d is still flat.   Either that, or you really dont give a crap about DM. You cant have it both ways. I see you for what you are and so does your kharma. It will find you, and when it does, I will be smiling.

Now write anything you want- I would rather have to live through putting Missie T to sleep again, than to visit this board again. You all deserve each other, here, with the exception of those you wrote privately expressing horror over your truly nasty and  ignorant attitudes.

Marjorie, I'm so sorry about Missie T.  You did right by her, just as you did with Jack Flash, and they were both fortunate dogs to have had you as their person.

Marjorie
I am so sorry that you finally lost Missie T. It is my greatest hope that you will never have to go through this again.

by beetree on 19 April 2012 - 06:04

Whatever Marjorie, your war is over.

The loss of a beloved pet is always tragic.

I am sure that Marjorie will continue her fight and support for DM dogs and their owners in memory of Jack Flash and now Missie T, and I am glad to think that she will do so. I have directed many people to her site over the years and the support and information to be obtained there is invaluable. She is right, it is very easy to criticise but do nothing, whereas she has provided so much to owners and their DM dogs for many years. For that Marjorie - I salute you.

The disparate views over DM testing is a different issue, and whilst we may not necessarily agree with the approach that is always taken, it is not a bad thing that we don't all pull the same way. I admire anyone who fights so tirelessly for what they believe in, even if I don't always agree with the method.

Again Marjorie, I am deeply sorry about Missie T, the bond developed in adversity runs extraordinarily deep, and my heart goes out to you.

Here's something else. Marjorie or anyone else. I do all I can, and still do for the record, unfortunately, you refused to recognize any of it. You don't even begin to ask me the right questions, instead you send out your barrage of names to call me.

by Blitzen on 19 April 2012 - 13:04

BeeTree, you tried to get a point acrossed, but it fell on deaf ears. You did what you could. Sadly, another opportunity to do something great for the breed has gone down the proverbial toilet because of egos and selective hearing.

Run free, Missy T, you were a very good girl.

First and foremost, Marjorie, I'm very sorry for your loss of your girl.
BeeTree - Before attacking people, you should get some facts. In this case, I am very familiar with the work that DR Clemmons has done BECAUSE I worked with him at the University. We had many discussions on his cases and some that I brought in to him. And, yes, I am quite familiar with funding because I have had to procure funds for several research projects(getting grant money from any source right now is very very very difficult regards of what the area is..). AND guess what - when the funds get taken away, everyone loses....Because of the financial issues at the school in general and the vet school in particular, research has been slashed, entire departments have been closed and many others have had significant staff reductions. It speaks for itself.
