1.What are the strengths of this very influential dog? 2.When do you advice to use ursus lines in your breeding?

by denq on 26 August 2006 - 03:08

3. what are the weaknesses that can be corrected by using a stud with an ursus line?

by Anu on 26 August 2006 - 09:08

The Ursus line carries Strong Masculine heads and very good forequarters and it is advisable to introduce the ursus line into your breeding program to get that particular ursus type and also to improve pigmentation! But while breeding those lines, you have to be very careful about the length and lay of croup.

Is it a good combination with an Ulk Arlett/Neptun Bad-Boll granddaughter? Very common thought when breeding dogs. What I like to refer as a paper breeding....Sure !!! However when breeding dogs much much more needs to be looked at besides the pedigree. The dogs need to be paired with thought, matching a weakness to a strength and so on. In a litter all dogs dont share the same strenghts and weaknesses, so you it is hader to choose then just looking at pedigrees. Something a lot of people forget....

thanks fokwulfe, the only weakness i see with my bitch is the hock joints, its not cow hock but when you look at it from the front or back she cant seem to straighten it when on a stack position. the stud hocks are straight when in stack position however when he runs it sometime looks as if his pulling it all the way back that it sorts moves in jerky fashion or it doesnt look to fluid most of the times(x-ray of hip joint of stud is normal). is it ok to use this stud dog? we also have limited number of stud dogs in our area. will the genes from the forefathers correct this or worsen it. i tried the mating check here, and results were 5-5 on jeck and zamb, 4-5 on ulk arlett thats why i was quite excited with it, coz on paper it looks like a good combination, but as what you said breeding takes more than just looking at the pedigree.

I have a 2.5 year old ursus/ulk granddaughter(ulk is dam's sire). This bitch is on the smaller side of the standard, pigment is very good, temperment is excellent, she is a very serious dog when it comes to work. Off the field, her maturity is slower than some other dogs. She is entered in her first conformation show in late Sept, we will see if she measures up to all I think she is.
