I agree with Alabamak9 join a schutzhund club... go to http://www.germanshepherdlitters.com/clubs.htm (copy and paste it into your web browser) to look at which club to join in your area. As far as books... I recommend Schutzhund theory and training methods by Susan barwig and stewart Hilliard. Looking at videos may look interesting but I do not recommend that you adopt the training method that you see on the video.. Only buy videos to see what schutzhund is about. Never adopt the method.

Join a club, Visit many if you have the luxury of having many in your area, Seriously visit as many as you can several times I reccomend at least 3 visits, Then decide which club you are more comfortable with and join that club ! Go into this willing to take direction and willing to be patient for as long as it takes, Push the dog = Icky, unreliable, defensive, scared dog. Take the time to do it right and you will be happy with what you end up with. Best of Luck to you and most of all Have Fun !

Definately join a club. You can't train a dog from a book or a video. Dont get me wrong it can help but you can not ask a book or a video why what you tried did not work just like it did on the video. You need someone to let you know what you are doing right and wrong.
