I can't imagine it is always about money. Most Canine enthusiasts always thurst for more knowledge. A workingline nut is told always about the negatives of the showline. So, they go out and get the best showline to see for themselves. And sometimes, they are turned around realizing other strengths of the different lines. It is a sad day when curiousity leaves us.

Working or West German Showline or Am bred all breed or a Am bred specialty showline..... I just want an UNCONDITIONAL LOVE from a HEALTHY GSD.

I see Showline breeders getting work lines dogs for breeding e.g Russ Osburn from the WhirlingThunder kennels... I do not think the concept of it has anything to do with money (I’m sure some do). It’s the matter of improving the breed and knowing both bloodlines weakness.

Share these links if you don't mind... I think I am seeing them for sale on some working line kennels sites simply because they want to "tap" into the market. I know a guy on the West Coast who only breeds working line GSDs but only sells showlines. WTF!!!! His reasoning was there was no good market in working lines and more revenue could be made from people wanting showlines. :: sighs:: What is this world coming to

I am a "working line" breeder, and yep I own a show-line female - because she bit her handler and trainer in Germany, her owner was afraid of her, I agreed to whelp her litters for him, then I ended up with her when her owner decided to sell her to a well-known trainer/competitor who wanted her for Universal Seiger/sell for big $$$$$. I refused to let her go to a trainer known for brutal methods and quickie turn-around to anyone with $$$$ and so I own her now. So the "show line branch" of my program kind of fell inmy lap. But, no regrets. Super nice WORKING female of show-lines. Excellent temperament (yep, strong and good aggression), drives (yep, high) grips (yep, firm and full) and nerve (yep, stable). So being a "working line" breeder who cares about these things above any conformation or color - I don't mind keeping this female and breeding her. Of course she is bred only to carefully chosen 'good working' show-line males. I've never had a problem with GSDs who can work from any lines - just harder to find that in show lines. molly

Honestly, why does it matter? Maybe some workingline breeders are interested in getting involved in showing? Maybe they LIKE the showtype? Maybe they have a lot of customers who WANT blk/red dogs and can't handle a high drive dog? Who cares...a German Shepherd is a German Shepherd, no matter what "bloodline" or "type", a true German Shepherd lover accepts and respects EVERY type and bloodline...from AM/Ger. Show/Ger. Work/DDR....It doesn't matter. I like all the bloodlines, I can appreciate ANY German Shepherd with a good tempernment. I can say one thing, none of them need anyone passing judgement nor do they need anyone sticking their nose where it doesn't belong.

I am a working line breeder but it does offend me to hear people post working lines most people can't handle them? The show line is usually the one with a temperament issue not sure what they are talking about? The drives are better more active maybe that is what they are referring to but as far as the stable temperament the working line is best and yes I have owned all types american, show-line and now working line and the issues of the other two drove me to working lines. People call here for the saddle back/black&red and do not care for the look of a sable in general. I ask a breeder in Germany who had working lines for his personal dogs and show-lines to breed and sell and he said the same thing the market especially americans they want this dog. I hope I never need money bad enough to breed for a look but for overall health, temperament and intelligence the way this breed was intended to be.

I am talking about the breeder links on the USA web site LuvsCzechDawgz. No problem with your breedings. They look terrific. Breeding a dog that bit the handler, owner, or trainer , is that a good idea? I agree with Alabama K9, working dogs bred responsibly have great temperaments. D'mann
